Hearing in Barstow tomorrow for June shooting of San Bernardino man

A Riverside man charged with last year's execution-style shooting of an aspiring rapper is set for a second preliminary hearing Thursday in Barstow.

Dudzai "Prosper" Pswatai is receiving the second preliminary hearing because prosecutors dismissed and then quickly refiled charges against him Nov. 25 in the death of 24-year-old Robert Raymond Mastrangelo, of San Bernardino.

The refile caused the case to start over. At the time, prosecutors said they needed more time for the investigation and were awaiting DNA test results.

At the preliminary hearing, a judge will listen to witness testimony, see exhibits and then determine if sufficient evidence exists to hold over the the defendant for trial. The hearing is set for Thursday in Barstow Superior Court, according to the District Attorney's Office and court records.

Pswatai faces charges of murder, kidnapping, robbery and solicitation to commit murder in the death of Mastrangelo, whose body was found June 14 in a drainage ditch along the 15 Freeway, according to Superior Court records.

The victim's feet were bound, and he had been shot several times in the upper body, according to authorities. He was reported missing June 11.
