Man, woman plead guilty in robbery of Upland bowling alley
Two Ontario residents have been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to robbing an Upland bowling alley last month.
Joe Rodriguez, 46, and Angelica Calderon, 33, each agreed to a plea bargain in West Valley Superior Court last week that includes a seven-year prison sentence, according to court records.
Rodriguez and Calderon entered the Brunswick Zone bowling alley through a side door Dec. 22 at about 12:30 a.m., while two employees were performing their closing duties.
They triggered an alarm because they entered after the business closed at midnight, and police were dispatched to the Foothill Boulevard bowling alley.
Rodriguez and Calderon, who were apparently a couple, forced the two workers to lay down on the ground after demanding they empty their pockets of their possessions.
"If you cherish your lives and want to see your kids again, cooperate," Calderon said, according to one employee's interview with police.
Rodriguez and Calderon were unarmed during the incident, according to police reports, but they used duct tape to bind one worker's wrists and legs, and taped shut the other worker's mouth.
They took nearly $5,000 cash from the business's safe before police arrived at the bowling alley.
Police arrested Rodriguez and Calderon without incident after the employees identified the couple as the robbers.
While Rodriguez and Calderon were sitting in the back of a police cruiser after their arrest, an officer overheard Calderon tell Rodriguez, "I'll see you in a few years," according to the police report.
Calderon kissed Rodriguez on the lips and told him goodbye right before they were taken out of the police car, according to the police report.
