Montclair girl, 15, testifies about alleged rape
A mentally impaired 15-year-old Montclair girl took the witness stand Thursday and described being kidnapped and raped in October by a 54-year-old landscaper, Isaac Berbel Calderon.
Calderon, of Chino, forced the girl into his truck as she walked home from a bus stop, then raped her at a nearby motel, the girl testified during a preliminary hearing in West Valley Superior Court.
Calderon gave the girl four dollars when he dropped her off at her home afterward, she testified.
"I want to put him in jail because he did this to me," the girl said.
Prosecutors have filed four felony charges against Calderon for the Oct. 7 incident: rape of a victim unable to give consent, lewd acts with a 14- or 15-year-old child, oral copulation with a person under 16 years old, and kidnapping of a child to commit lewd or lascivious acts.
Calderon has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The girl, a student at Chaffey High School, testified that Calderon yelled toward her as she walked home from a school bus stop at Pradera Avenue and Kingsley Street.
She initially refused to go into is truck when he told her to, but she complied after he insisted, she testified. He told her he would take her to see animals, she testified.
She said he drove to a local motel, and on the way over offered her beer that he had in her truck. She turned down the offer.
Once at the motel, the man raped her, she testified.
"He told me not to say anything about it to anybody," the girl testified.
The girl told her parents about the incident, and they contacted police.
The preliminary hearing was suspended for lunch at about noon Thursday. It is set to continue Tuesday morning with the girl on the witness stand.
The only other witness called by prosecutors Thursday was the girl's mother, who testified mainly about the girl's mental capacity.
The mother testified that doctors have said her daughter has the mental capacity of a 7-year-old.
