Davidson, Ezra.jpgA Phillips Ranch woman accused of shooting and killing her husband on New Year's Day appeared in court Monday for the first time since her Thursday arrest.

Police say Adrienne Renee Davidson, 46, was motivated to kill Ezra Davidson Jr., 46, because of ongoing family issues.

Adrienne Davidson appeared in Pomona Superior Court Monday afternoon for an arraignment hearing, but she did not enter a plea.

Judge Thomas Falls set Davidson's bail at $2 million, and the arraignment was postponed to Jan. 29.

Pomona police Sgt. Matt Stone declined to go into detail about the family issues that motivated Davidson to kill her husband, the father of the couple's two children.

Davidson shot her husband once in the upper body with a handgun at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday at the family's home on Trabuco Road in Pomona, Stone said Monday.

"It's a nice neighborhood," Stone said. "It's in Phillips Ranch."

Stone said the couple's 8-year-old son, who was home at the time of the shooting, slept through the sound of the gunshot.

After she shot her husband, Davidson called the couple's daughter, in her 20s, and asked her to drive to the family home, Stone said.

When the daughter arrived, Davidson asked the woman to drive her to a police station. She did not tell the daughter why she wanted to be taken to police, Stone said.

Davidson woke up her 8-year-old son, and along with the daughter the three of them drove to the Walnut station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Stone said.

"She told (deputies) she was there to turn herself in, and that she had just killed her husband," Stone said.

Sheriff's deputies contacted Pomona police about the woman's confession, and officers immediately went to the family's home, where they found Ezra Davidson dead about 3:30 a.m., Stone said.

Stone said Davidson did not go into detail about her reasons for killing her husband when she talked to sheriff's deputies.

Police believe that family issues motivated the woman to kill based on interviews with friends and family members, Stone said.

At Davidson's arraignment hearing, she was dressed street clothes -- dark pants and a white shirt -- even though she had been in the Pomona Police Department jail since her arrest.

Deputy District Attorney Miji Vellakkatel, Davidson's prosecutor, declined to comment on the details of the shooting.
