Valdivia sword-killing preliminary hearing postponed

The preliminary hearing that was scheduled to take place this morning in West Valley Superior Court will be postponed because of scheduling issues, said Deputy District Attorney Ted Smith.

Valdivia, 33, is charged with murder for allegedly killing her husband, 36-year-old Jose Luis Gonzales, on April 26, 2008 in their apartment in the 800 block of West Orchid Court.

Valdivia claims she was acting in self-defense, her family members say. Valdivia rejected a plea offer from prosecutors last week that would have included a 13 year, 4 month prison sentence.
