Three arrested for December shooting death at Ontario hotel
Three Pomona men have been arrested and charged with murder for the December shooting death of a 41-year-old woman at a newly opened boutique hotel.
Kimberly Michelle Sum, a mother of two, died of a single gunshot wound to her upper body on Dec. 20.
Sum was unresponsive when staff members discovered her alone in her room at Hotel Indigo, a boutique hotel that opened in July just northwest of Haven Avenue and the 10 Freeway.
Last week, Ontario police officers arrested three men on suspicion on murdering Sum: Donald Ray Walker, 21; Matthew James McClane, 27; and Larry Darnell Shyne, 29.
Prosecutors have charged the three men with murder, and each man has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Each man remained jailed Tuesday at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga in lieu of $1.5 million bail. They are each due back Thursday in West Valley Superior Court.
Following the death of Sum, who lived at the hotel for about three months prior to her death, police identified Walker, McClane and Shyne as the three men they believe were responsible for the killing, according to an Ontario police news release.
Surveillance video footage from the hotel shows two men -- later identified by police as Walker and McClane -- leave Sum's room at the time of the shooting, then run to the hotel's parking lot several seconds later, according to a police news release from January.
Police say it's unclear what motivated the the shooting.
"Robbery is possibly a motive, but it's undetermined and unclear what the true motive was for the murder," said Ontario police detective Jeff Crittenden.
Crittende declined to identify which of the three men is the alleged gunman.
Jeff Wentz, the Ontario detective who investigated the shooting, declined to comment Tuesday when asked about the circumstances of the shooting.
Walker and McClane were each arrested Thursday in Pomona after police simultaneously served searched warrants on each man's home.
Walker was arrested in the 2400 block of Valhalla Street, and McClane was arrested at the Lemon Tree Motel in the 1700 block of Gillette Road.
Shyne was arrested Saturday in San Bernardino following an unrelated traffic stop, according to the news release.
An earlier version of this blog post incorrectly reported Sum's last name as Sun.
i just want to no what motivated them to shoot that lady and why would they something like that i no them personaly and i no that larry shyne is not like that they come from a chruch background and their parents are pastors and they live right up the street from me and i just hope that the lady's family is alright and my prayers go out to them. May God give them all stenght on this day and throughout the rest of this trial.
How could this man say Shyne was not like this...did you not read the report that said he was her PIMP and CONSPIRED the whole thing....Just because his fsmily is church going does not mean he is HOLIER THAN THOU!!!!!! Look at the fact, cousins conspiring to rob a women for financial gain is RUTHLESS. I too am a friend of two of the suspects and feel we need to let the evidence come out and stop listening to the media and so called acqaintences because the REAL TRUTH will come out.
and how do kno what they said is true do u kno larry shyne? apparently not and no she didnt say he was "holier then thou" she said he came from good family with a church back ground,and no one knos who conspired the incident but knowing, and growing up with walker and shyne im sure murdering the women was not the intent and yes as Mrs Thomas said may god be with the family of the two men and the womens family and the loser who pulled the trigger

walker braged about the murder the news paper said, at the time he was also sleeping with McClains wife, wich now is McClains ex-wife. so it seems that walker did not and does not care about other peopls life or feelins he got cought because of his braging and did not care in anyway about how he gets out of it. from what the streets say he had been arrested befor on gun charges and smuggeling imagrints witch he aloud the mother of his kid to go to jail with him so he did not have to do that much time. be a man for what you did dont let other peoples life go down because you f***ed up. walker did go to church and played the drums for the church but he also had gang tattoos from jail. pluse didnt members of his church go to jail for trying to rob a armord truck. the streets talk
I understand these 3 gentlemen may or may not have committed a crime. We as ppl need to get away from the hollier than thow comments, and realize salvation is not about family.

To the ones who comment on this case out of sure ignorace need not display there stupidity were it can be veiwed by others.what happened to inocent until proven guilty.for the one who made the comment that they heard someone else from the same church was arrested for some armoured truck robbery.the word of god sayes my people parish for lack of knowledge. whatever was done true or false in that case or any other for that matter has no reflection on the church. i personally have fellow shiped with the men ,woman and children of god at that chucrh and they are not worshiping the devil. that is what you would have to beleive to make a comment such as the ones involved in this case are now incarcerated has no baring or reflection on the house of god. surely the one who made that staement does not have a personal relationship with jesus christ. i to personally know two of the defendents in this case and yes they were brought up in the church.i was not there the night in questioned but obvisouly things went bad.i am sure there was no intent for the loss of life.my heart greives for the family of the woman who lost her life leaving two children to mourn her death.but by no means should the public poisin and palute the minds of those who are trying to make since of it all.i for one will not judge but wait upon the facts and not street gossip i would advise other readers to do the same and pray for both family's.may the lord jesus christ bless and keep them all withen his will.until the next post Justified by the law signing out.
From a young lady who knows larry and his cousin and who stayed with larry on in off for some time....I would like to say that larry had his days just like everybody.HE WAS SWEET AND LOVING,but they all have something to do with it just cause one was in the car in the other two was in the room dont make it any better.I know that larry get hot headed when pepole play with him or if he even thinks your playing with him. HE also may say things but i have not seen him go thought with it.but all three man are grown they all have ther on mind..THEY HAD THE RIGHT NOT TO GO...I JUST PRAY THAT ALL THE FAMILY WILL BE OKAY.Yes we know that larry was a pimp in i know for a fact he was.but that doesnt make him a bad man it make him a less of a man who need girls to do his dirty work.but i also know he didnt need them girls he had his own money.but i dont think larry should get the same time as the people who killed SUM.but i also dont think he should get off free.no matter what happen i will always love larry for the things he showed me in life some good some bad,but i also have a little hate in me to.but i pray god take it away.always a ex working girl

Sum was a working women and I'm not saying she deserved to die but all who live the life still has to except the good and the bad that comes along with it. All 3 men deserve some time!!!! But,offering the driver the same time as the shooter doesnt seem fair. The only thing left to do is pray. Walker, Shyne, Sum all had young childern who lost the most in this case.
