Jurors begin deliberations in Chino Hills bank robbery trial

Jurors began deliberating Tuesday afternoon following a month-long trial for three Compton men accused of robbing a Citibank branch in Chino Hills.

Prosecutors filed multiple felony counts against Sepheren Scorza, 22, and twin brothers Tiawan Merriweather and Tylin Merriweather, both 20, for the July 3, 2007 robbery at 14808 Pipeline Ave.

The men allegedly stole about $120,000 from the bank, and were arrested later that day in Orange County while trying to make a getaway. They may each face prison sentences of more than 20 years if convicted on all counts.

Jurors began deliberating at about 2 p.m. Tuesday in West Valley Superior Court, according to online minutes from the hearing. They were set to continue deliberating this morning at 9.

A fourth man accused in the alleged crime, 22-year-old Terry Lee McAdams, took a plea bargain for 13 years in state prison in February as the case was set to go to trial.
