FONTANA -- A local water polo referee was sentenced to 120 days in jail this morning for carrying on a sexual relationship with an underage Fontana girl.

Nicolas Simental, 31, will be able to serve his time through home confinement or through work release, prosecutors said.

At today's sentencing hearing in Fontana Superior Court, the girl's father portrayed Simental, of Highland, as a sexual predator who used his position as a referee to forge sexual relationships with underage girls.

"He used his position of trust ... to launch his attacks against her," the victim's father said in a statement read aloud in court.

The girl told police that Simental, a close family friend, first kissed her at her home in Fontana when she was 14, according to police reports.

About a year later, Simental initiated a sexual relationship with the girl, she told police. Simental had sex with the girl 20 to 30 times over the following year before the relationship ended, the girl told police.

The girl's father later learned of the relationship when he read his daughter's diary, which she had left in a bathroom at the family's home.

Will Bigham, you are a piece of crap that doesn't report the facts. Maybe the Sun will hire a real journalist who doesn't have rug burns on his knees.
