Man charged in shooting outside Highland complex
By Stacia Glenn
A Twentynine Palms man has been charged with the Dec. 10 slaying of a man he was arguing with outside a Highland apartment complex.
Alcide Levont Lewis Walker, 29, was charged Tuesday with murder, second degree robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to a criminal complaint filed in San Bernardino Superior Court.
Sheriff's investigators say Walker shot Ryan Peters, 23, of San Bernardino, outside an apartment complex in the 25100 block of Fifth Street. Witnesses told investigators Peters was arguing with a group of black men prior to the shooting, but it's unsure what they were fighting about. Robbery is believed to play a part in the motive, said sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Miller.
Walker's ex-wife, Jeanne Walker, has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy and murder for assiting Walker after the shooting. Details of how she aided him have not been released.
Walker has been convicted of assault with a deadly weapon, making criminal threats and possessing a controlled substance, according to San Bernardino Superior Court records.
Anyone with information on Peter's slaying is asked to call Detective Armando Castillo or Sgt. Frank Bell at 909-387-3589. Anonymous tipsters can call 800-78-CRIME.

Here in Silicon Valley, I listen to radio stoaitn KLIV on my way home and they just reported that the DQ numbers for the valley show a new record high median price, but YOY volume down over 20%. It confirms what I am seeing locally: houses sell in a few months instead of a few weeks, but still at top dollar. A few months ago, 3 houses went up for sale on my block, a 15 year old development. All three have recently sold for their original asking prices, over $500 per square foot, the signs are now down, and the new neighbors are in. I've been bubblesitting for over two years, and even though the pressure is high from the wife and from society to buy, I simply won't do it until buying saves money over renting, and I no longer expect that to happen anytime soon. "Current odds" notwithstanding, housing seems to be defying logic, reminding me of that old saying, "markets can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent."
