Trial imminent in 2005 San Bernardino motel slaying

Prosecutors say a trial may begin next week for a Riverside man accused of fatally stabbing his 18-year-old girlfriend in 2005 with such force that a knife broke off in her throat.

Anthony Lamont McCullough, 39, returns Monday to San Bernardino Superior Court to determine whether his trial will get under way in the slaying of Shicole Deshon Bester at an H Street motel in San Bernardino.

Deputy District Attorney Joanne Uhlman, who is prosecuting McCullough's case, said she hopes the trial will start by Tuesday. Generally, lawyers must argue pretrial motions before the court and select a jury before testimony can begin.

McCullough faces murder charges in the death of Shicole Deshon Bester on March 8, 2005 in a second-floor room at the Econo Lodge Motel.

Bester and McCullough had been dating before the young woman's death. Witnesses told authorities the couple were having an "emotional discussion" inside the motel room just before it turned violent, according to prosecutors.

Bester is a cousin of 11-year-old Mynisha Crenshaw, who was killed eight months later when several men fired weapons into her family's San Bernardino apartment while hunting for rival gang members, according to San Bernardino police.

The defendant, who already has two strikes from prior felony convictions in Riverside County, faces a third strike and mandatory life in prison if convicted in Bester's death, according to prosecutors.

The real sadness is why an 18-year old would find a 35 year old two-time felon attractive boyfriend material. Maybe he isn't a monster, but he had proven that he cannot live among everyday citizens, he cannot be trusted, he makes bad choices and now he is facing the consequences of the path he decided to follow.

don't sit there and make excuses for "ant" or "termite" whichever you want to call him...i knew him and he was always violent towards women...always..it seemed he could not help himself with jealous rages at the slightest thought that she was interested in someone else..so stop with that first cousin or not a young woman has died.
