An underground fire caused $15,000 damage to the San Bernardino County Courthouse and its contents late Tuesday.

Eleven San Bernardino city firefighters came to the property at 351 N. Arrowhead Ave. after receiving a report of the blaze at 11:42 p.m., fire officials said.

The fire started in an underground storage area near the main courthouse and jail facility. Lawn equipment, fuel and other chemicals were stored in the room.

Firefighters gained control of the blaze within 30 minutes. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Investigators said the blaze caused $5,000 damage to the property and $10,000 to its contents.
