A Twentynine Palms man, who was charged in the Dec. 10 death of a man outside a Highland apartment complex, returns to court Tuesday to confirm the appointment of his attorney.

Sheriff's investigators say Alcide Levont Lewis Walker, 29, was arguing with the victim before the shooting.

Walker pleaded not guilty Dec. 30 in San Bernardino Superior Court to charges of murder, second-degree robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He also denied all special allegations and prior offenses, according to court records.

According to investigators, Walker shot Ryan Peters, 23, of San Bernardino, outside an apartment complex in the 25100 block of Fifth Street. Witnesses told investigators Peters was arguing with a group of black men prior to the shooting, but it's unsure what they were fighting about.

Robbery is believed to play a part in the motive, said sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Miller.

Walker's ex-wife, Jeanne Walker, has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy and murder for assisting Walker after the shooting. Details of how she aided him have not been released.

Anyone with information on Peter's slaying is asked to call Detective Armando Castillo or Sgt. Frank Bell at 909-387-3589. Anonymous tipsters can call 800-78-CRIME.
