A Rim Forest man was sentenced to 15 years in state prison Tuesday for a DUI-related crash into a motorcycle that left a man dead and a woman injured.

Daniel Guderjohn Palmer, 29, was sentenced under the terms of a plea bargain reached with prosecutors Jan. 12 in San Bernardino Superior Court, according to court records. He received credit for 338 days already served, which included conduct credit.

Under the agreement, Palmer pleaded guilty to felony counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, fleeing the scene of a crime and assault with a deadly weapon likely causing great bodily injury. He also had a previous conviction for drunken driving in 2005.

The defendant was driving a 1999 Ford Ranger pickup south on Interstate 215 on June 15, when he rear-ended a Suzuki motorcycle near Second Street, in San Bernardino, according to authorities. The motorcycle struck the center divider, ejecting the driver James Hayward Julian IV and a female passenger.

Julian, 27, died at the scene while the passenger, Rosie Bowman, suffered a broken elbow and other injuries.
