A Redlands landlady accused of beating her teenage tenant to death in 1994 has been denied bail and will remain jailed in San Diego County.

Seferina Marquez Ponce, 52, is charged in the fatal beating of 18-year-old Sarah Reyes, who was last seen Oct. 3, 1994. Her remains were discovered in an avocado grove in rural San Diego County in 2008.

Reyes left behind an 11-month-old son.

A motive for the slaying has not been released.

Ponce is next scheduled to appear in court for a status hearing in March. A preliminary hearing was tentatively set for April 19.
