Pomona police revise facts in park shooting: one killed, one critical, one injured

POMONA -- A young man reported killed in a shooting last week at Ted Greene Park did not die from his injuries, and remains hospitalized in critical condition, police said.

A Pomona police news release said last week that two people died and a third was injured in a shooting at about 4 p.m. Friday at Orange Grove and La Verne avenues.

Sgt. Rick Baker said this afternoon that the news release was in error, and one of the young men reported killed remained alive.

The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office reported that the man killed in the shooting was Timmy Moore, 17, of Pomona. The other two shooting victims are also Pomona residents, police said.

A 17-year-old Pomona man was arrested Friday on suspicion of shooting the three men, and remains jailed.

Baker said detectives plan to present the case to prosecutors Tuesday, and charges could be filed Tuesday against the 17-year-old. Police have not named him because he is a juvenile.

An area resident told a reporter last week that he was in the park when the shooting occurred.

The man, who declined to give his name, said he saw a group of six or seven young men in the park sitting on a bench.

A second group of four young men, including one on a bicycle, entered the park, and a member of the first group approached the second group, the witness said.

The witness said he turned away at that point, but looked back after he heard gunshots. The witness said he saw the man on the bicycle put what appeared to be a BB gun under his shirt.
