Prosecutors file charges in fatal shooting at Pomona park

POMONA -- Prosecutors filed two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder this afternoon against a reputed gang member allegedly involved in a fatal shooting at a Pomona park last week.

Dayveon Thomas, 17, allegedly aided and abetted a gang ally who opened fire on rival gang members Friday in Ted Greene Park, killing one or two people and injuring a third, said Deputy District Attorney Bjorn Dodd.

Thomas is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning in Pomona Supeiror Court. He could face life without the possibility of parole if convicted, Dodd said.

Dodd said he will ask a judge today to order Thomas, of Pomona, held without bail.

Timmy Moore, 17, of Pomona was killed in Friday's shooting.

There were conflicting reports this afternoon about whether another victim, a young man named P. Dunn, died or remained in critical condition. The man's full name was unavailable.

Dodd said that during a meeting with detectives today, he was told two people had died.

But Pomona police Sgt. Rick Baker said this afternoon that police had not been notified by physicians that the second victim, who was in critical condition Monday, had died.

The alleged shooter and about three other people involved in the incident have not been located by police, Dodd said.

"The investigation is ongoing, so that could change at any time," Dodd said.

The prosecutor declined to name the other suspects.

An area resident told a reporter last week that he was in the park when the shooting occurred. The man said that prior to the shooting, he saw a group of six or seven young men in the park sitting on a bench.

A second group of four young men, including one on a bicycle, entered the park, and a member of the first group approached the second group, said the witness, who declined to give his name.

The witness said he turned away at that point, but looked back after he heard gunshots. The witness said he saw the man on the bicycle put what appeared to be a BB gun under his shirt.
