Former high school teacher pleads guilty for relationship with underage girl
CHINO -- A former science teacher at Chino Hills High School has pleaded guilty to two felonies for having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl.
John Ralph Hirsch, 41, reached a plea agreement with prosecutors March 4 that carries one year in jail and three years of probation. The agreement also requires Hirsch to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Hirsch, of Ontario, pleaded guilty to committing a lewd act on a child and unlawful sexual intercourse. He was taken into custody in Chino Superior Court after entering the pleas.
He is scheduled to be sentenced April 6.
In June, one of the girl's neighbors in Chino Hills saw Hirsch climbing a ladder up to the girl's second-floor bedroom window.
The neighbor confronted Hirsch, who then fled the area with the ladder. He was arrested at Chino Hills High School the following day by San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies.
Hirsch posted $150,000 bail the day after his arrest, and remained free until he entered his guilty pleas March 4.
Hirsch resigned from his position by the time prosecutors charged him in October with six felonies and a misdemeanor for his relationship with the girl, which reportedly lasted from Aug. 31, 2009 to June 4, 2010.
The remaining counts against Hirsch will be dismissed at his sentencing hearing, according to a document in his court file that details the plea agreement.
