RANCHO CUCAMONGA -- A 45-year-old man was sentenced to 13 years in state prison Thursday in West Valley Superior Court after pleading guilty to felony spousal abuse.

Eric Smith was accused of attacking his girlfriend in October and holding her hostage for several days in the home they shared in the 6000 block of Haven Avenue in Rancho Cucamonga.

Smith's girlfriend told deputies that Smith tied her up, tortured her and threatened to kill her, according to a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Several charges against Smith -- including attempted murder and other felonies -- were dismissed as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.
