Bruich's reclamation projects
Kaiser football coach Dick Bruich makes some interesting decisions on assistant coaches. While the veteran coach may be conservative on offense, he is not afraid to gamble on guys who fell out of favor as head coaches.
Arguably, it has benefited the Cats' program. Two examples are line coach Bryan Griggs and running backs/outside linebackers coach Larry Claunch. Griggs and Claunch didn't last long as the coaches at Victor Valley and Rialto, respectively. But they seem to be doing well under Bruich's guidance at Kaiser.
"They're good guys," Bruich told the Prep-dog after a recent practice. "Not everybody is meant to be a head coach. But there is also more than one way to skin a cat. By coaching in a different program they can see there is a different way of doing things."
Both Griggs and Claunch looked happy and productive while putting the Cats through their paces.
Claunch said his time spent under Bruich has been welcome after his tumultuous stint at Rialto.
"I'm learning from the master," he said. "I'm getting by far the better end of the deal. I've learned so much from him."

Coach Griggs is a good guy. He coached me at Victor Valley as the defensive coordinator... Go Victor Valley, Beat Apple Valley...
