Enjoying their Brie

When Brie Crosby called Granite Hills looking for a volleyball coaching job prior to last season, something struck Cougars athletic director Carolyn Ruhm.

The name sounded faintly familiar, but Ruhm couldn't place the caller. But when the job seeker showed up for an interview, Ruhm knew immediately who she was.

It was the former Brie Harris, a two-time Sun County Player of the Year from Silverado. She also was an NCAA Division II All-American at Cal State San Bernardino. Ruhm, the former Cougars volleyball coach, picked the now-married Crosby to fill Ruhm's own vacated position.

The Cougars went 13-12-1 last season, including a second-place finish in league. They were defeated in the second round of the playoffs.

"She did a great job," Ruhm said. "We finished second in league, but Barstow had a (strong) team. But the girls just love Brie to pieces. One thing that always impressed me about Brie as a player was how well she treated her teammates."

The Cougars have a tough non-league match Sept. 6 against visiting Sultana.
