Ochs remembers dad

| | Comments (0)

Our thoughts go out to Dave Ochs, whose father Dorance, 86, died recently in Lodi (Northern California). Ochs is the longtime Rim of the World athletic director.

Dorance was a commander in the Navy, who survived the sinking of the Lexington in the Coral Sea in World War II. The elder Ochs was in the Navy for 30 years.

"He taught me that with hard work and dedication you can be successful," said Ochs, who just returned from NorCal.

Ochs said his athletic department secretary Mary Moran and all of the Rim coaches did a nice job keeping things going while he was gone for 10 days tending to the business of the funeral etc.

The Fighting Scots A.D was reared in San Diego, but moved to Hawaii during high school. Like Redlands East Valley athletic director Rhonda Fouch (Kamehameha High), Ochs attended a high school (Radford) in the islands.
