The Redlands girls can enjoy the beach Sunday after winning the Iolani Cross Country Invitational on Sataurday in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Terriers coach Rod Anzai called the dog on Saturday afternoon with the news. The Iolani cross country race is the largest in the state, said Anzai, a graduate of St. Louis High School in the islands.

Freshman Robyn Arnold led the Terriers to their third invitational win of the young season, taking first place in the 3.1-mile event in 19:10.10. Also for the Terriers, Elizabath Ramos placed second, Meredith Robie eighth, Lauren Jacobs 10th and Sarah Gonzalez 12th.

Megan Crowley of Redlands won the girls junior 2-mile race.

No times were available for anyone but Arnold.

Kyle Simmons and Jacob Young led the varsity boys to a sixth-place finish.

Anzai said 15 Terriers made the trip - 10 girls and five boys. Twelve parents also went, and no doubt behaved themselves. .

"The kids are having fun at the beach and shopping til they drop," Anzai said. "Tomorrow we're going to Dulles Air Force Base; there's a private beach there. They'll like that."

Anzai is retired Air Force, having served for 30 years.

The Terriers return to California on Monday.
