Yucaipa gets new turf
Yucaipa High School unveils its new FieldTurf on Thursday with two underclassmen football games against Rialto.
"The company did a super job on the project," new Thunderbirds athletic director Mark Anderson said. "There were a few glitches, but they more than accommodated us. We're really pleased with the turf."
The freshman game is at 3:15 p.m. and the junior varsity is at 5. Yucaipa's varsity plays Rialto at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Carter.
Yucaipa's new turf is 100 yards for football and 110 for soccer. It was paid for by fund-raising. Eventually it will also have an all-weather track, although funds for that have not been raised yet, Anderson said.
There is a large YHS logo at midfield, with YUCAIPA spelled out in one end zone and THUNDERBIRDS in the other.
The first varsity football game on the turf is Oct. 5 against neighboring Citrus Belt League rival Redlands East Valley. The Wildcats are ranked No. 17 in the state by calhisports.com.
