CIF won't push back playoffs
The CIF-Southern Section re-emphasized its e-mail to athletic director Wednesday by issuing a press release today saying it won't push back the football playoff schedule.
Here is the press release from the CIF-SS:
LOS ALAMITOS – The CIF Southern Section recognizes the extreme hardship placed on communities, school districts, schools, coaches, officials, spectators and student-athletes by the ongoing fires occurring around Southern California. The health and welfare of all those involved in CIF-SS athletics is always the most important issue in the consideration of how to address these hardships when any type of disaster occurs.
With those considerations in mind, the Commissioner of Athletics, Dr. Jim Staunton, has made the decision to allow leagues, in the sport of football, until 3 p.m. Saturday, November 10 to submit their playoff entries.
Leagues and individual schools will have the opportunity to complete their entire schedule under that time frame utilizing CIF State Rule 1905 – Number of Contests:
“A high school football team of whatsoever classification or name shall not play more than two games in any eight-day period. A continued game under National Federation football rules shall not be considered in this limitation.”
If a league or district determines that they cannot complete all of their games over the next 16 days, the section office will still accept league entries with less than a full schedule as we do during a normal season in any sport.
Due to the firm schedule of the CIF State Football Championships, the state rules related to any other competition during that week, the hardships placed on areas of the state not affected by this disaster, and the possible disruption of student-athletes Winter Breaks the CIF Southern Section will not extend the season of sport beyond the November 10 date.
This extension to November 10 only relates to the sport of football and not to any other Fall sport.
