Low desert lowdown

| | Comments (0)

Prep-dog took his act to the low desert Friday for the Rialto-Eisenhower and Yucaipa-Fontana doubleheader.

It was a beautiful day for football, so let's play two?

The first person I saw was Ike athletic director Steve Johnson, who laughed at me for drawing such an assignment.

En route to the stadium the dog also encountered Redlands coach Jim Walker and his staff. They were climbing out of an RV on a scouting assignment. Walker was in as good a mood as possible for someone who had lost his last game, 22-21 to Yucaipa in overtime.

Kudos go to Palm Springs High School for hosting this event on short notice. It did a nice job and even had a snack bar set up that was serving some appetizing-looking burritos and tacos - if only I hadn't visited the nearby Jack in the Box on the way in. The last thing you want to do on a football twinbill is go in with an empty stomach.

Well, Ike won on a late field goal, Yucaipa won, I made deadline and I learned some new words from some of the assistant coaches seated near me. As the young people would say, it was all good.
