Cover prep football for long enough and you see some unique plays.

Just last week the dog, in a pair of games he covered, saw: 1. An onside kick attempt that was mis-kicked and traveled backwards; 2. A punt that bounced off a defender's head and bounced right to the receiver who returned it; and 3. A team (Hesperia) mistakenly given five downs near the end of the half. The Scorpions used the extra down to attempt a field goal, which they missed in a 14-0 loss to Serrano.

What is the strangest play you have ever seen on a prep football field?

In a JV game I sdaw a line drive kicoff bounce off the frontline retrun mans helmet and back to the kicker who advanced the ball about 30 yards.

I didn't actually see this happen because I was assigned to another game, but ... in the early 1990s South San Francisco played its rivalry game against El Camino at SSF's Clifford Field. Pranksters blew up the scoreboard with a pipe bomb, with debris flying onto the field. Fortunately, nobody was hurt. They needed a new scoreboard, though.
