Vista Murrieta cracks baseball ratings

| | Comments (0)

Vista Murrieta has been ranked 12th in the rivals.com fab 50 national baseball rankings.

The Nighthawks have Long Beach State recruit Derek Legg at shortstop, along with pitcher Brian Valenzuela (10-1, 1.23 earned run average last season) and two other top pitchers in Taylor Garrison and John Weise. Murrieta Valley is the defending CIF-SS Division II champion.

Other California teams cracking the top 50 are: Long Beach Wilson (2nd), San Mateo Serra (20th), Bakersfield Centennial (32nd), Chatsworth (36th), San Jose Valley Christian (40th) and La Mesa Grossmont (48th).

An unranked team to watch could be Aptos of Northern California, the bulk of the team being from the Aptos Little League team from several years ago that won the Western Regional in San Bernardino. Aptos is led by star pitcher and Santa Clara University recruit Kevin Eichhorn, son of former major league relief pitcher Mark Eichhorn. Aptos has beefed up its schedule this season, but had a game scheduled against No. 20 Serra rained out on Friday.
