Banner year for the Fighting Scots
Prep-dog was in the Sun sports department office in Ontario on Friday night when the phone rang. It was Rim of the World softball coach Bill Kelly.
I asked Kelly how it was going.
"Terrible," he said. "We lost."
The Fighting Scots had fallen to San Dimas 4-1 in the CIF-SS playoffs.
That ends the season for Rim, which had a remarkable run. Along the way the Scots won the third league softball title in school history, going 14-0 in the Mojave River League.
"We don't have any softball banners up on the walll," Kelly said. "I'm going to make Mr. (Dave) Ochs give me one."
Ochs is the Rim athletic director.
The Scots finished 19-2 and were led by junior pitcher Erica Prentice. Another top player they will have back next season is freshman Elizabeth Caporuscio.
It's been quite an ascension for the Scots' program. Kelly's first team at Rim eight years ago went 0-23.
