Barendregt resigns at Pacific, takes Baldwin Park job

| | Comments (0)

Pacific High School baseball coach Jake Barendregt has resigned from his coaching position and has taken another one, Barendregt just told the Prep-dog.

Barendregt has accepted the baseball job at his alma mater, Baldwin Park High School. He replaces Mark Price, who is now the coach at Fullerton High School.

"It's closer to my family," Barendregt said of Baldwin Park. "I have a step-brother who goes there and my little brother lives (in Baldwin Park)."

Although Pacific has had numerous coaching changes since last spring, Barendregt said it was totally his own decision.

"It's on my side," he said. "It's nothing against Pacific. I think I had a lot of support here. It's tough, very tough. Some of my players are right here and they're a little sad about it. There's never a perfect year to go."

The Pirates under Barendregt went 7-16-1 in 2008 and 6-16 in '07. They did not make the playoffs either year.

Among Pacific's returnees is pitcher/infielder David Kiriakos, who has earned a baseball scholarship to Cal State Fullerton. Kiriakos is not playing football this season in order to concentrate on baseball.
