Kudos to Rialto Unified, Boron football supporters
We probably don't pass out the plaudits enough here at Prep-dog. So here's a couple of bouquets. But don't expect it all the time:
Supporters of Boron football and various other well-wishers: For the condolences and tokens of support to the Bobcats after the death of Boron football player Vinnie Rodriguez following a game Sept. 12.
A spaghetti feed was held and high school teams were bused in from all around to pay a fee and eat some pasta and remember a gutsy 135-pound sophomore running back/defensive back named Vinnie. The player died four days after making a tackle on a California School for the Deaf receiver.
Boron and CSDR players are now wearing V2 decals on their helmets. The No. 2 was Vinnie's. The condolences came from as far as the state of Washington and included a phone call from USC coach Pete Carroll to Boron football coach Todd Fink.
Boron's Friday opponent, Los Angeles Ribet Academy, agreed to move its home game against Boron to the High Desert so that Bronco players do not have to travel a day after the memorial service, which is today. The game is now at 7 p.m. at Boron High.
The Rialto Unified School District: For their quick action in the red imported fire ant situation - quarantining the area, ordering practices moved, notifying the parents, working with the media and eradicating the problem. Nice job.
