Serrano holds off Silverado, 35-20

Serrano defeated Silverardo 35-20 tonight up here in Phelan. Big traffic jam heading out of the game, so I wrote my story (and this blogging) from my car.

Weird game. Serrano led 28-10 in third quarter, but Silverado closed to within eight with two scores. Then the D'backs put it away with their running game, which hadn't looked overpowering until then.

Jamaal Franklin had two TD catches from Alex Spainhower for Serrano. Also, Dionza Bradford, a junior, had an 85-yard KO return and a six-yard TD run for Serrano.

But Jemeryn Jenkins passed for 200 yards and a TD and ran for 103 yards and one TD to keep the Hawks close. Also, Bryce Lugo kicked a pair of field goals for the visitors.

Serrano is now 2-0 and Silverado 0-2. Both should compete for league titles this season. Now it's time to warm up the Grand Am and head back to the flatlands.
