Los Osos sweeps Upland in girls volleyball

| | Comments (2)

The word on the street - actually Rancho Cucamonga coach Brandon Blevins just told me - is that Los Osos swept Upland in girls volleyball tonight.

That's the first time in seven years Upland has lost a Baseline League match. It has not failed to win a league title since 1998 when Claremont was the champion (Upland finished second).

"That's huge," Ayala coach Bernie Wendling told me when informed of Los Osos' mild upset.

Seeds of this could be seen earlier in the season when observers said Los Osos did very well in a scrimmage against Redlands East Valley, now ranked 39th in the nation.

I'm thinking John Tawa at prepvolleyball.com might have to rank Los Osos in his national Top 100 now.

Did anybody out there attend this match? If so, how was it? How was the crowd?

Saw the game tonight again Los Osos and Upland. There was a big crowd with many students attending the game. The crowd was loud and the volleyball great. Los Osos dominated Upland in the first game. In the second game Los Osos was down by 7 or 8 points and came from behind to take the 2nd game. After that come from behind win in the 2nd game I think Upland was totally defeated. They went down fast and hard in the 3rd game 25 to 16 I believe is what the score was. The Grizzly girls didn't want to leave the gym they were so excited - they just hung around and enjoyed the victory.
