Got an email from Silverado assistant football coach Kris Martinsen. Kris and his son Ryan both assist Carl Posey with the Hawks.

Silverado is 0-5 following its 27-14 loss to Colton on Thursday night. But the Hawks played a brutal non-league schedule - its opponents combined have a 20-2 record - and should be fine once league begins. It's possible Silverado could win the Desert Sky League.

Martinsen is more or less from my 'hood up in the Bay Area. He played quarterback at Capuchino High of San Bruno, which sounds like a coffee drink but is best known as the alma mater of pro baseball players Wally Bunker and Keith Hernandez and actress Suzanne Somers. Suzanne's father, Ducky Mahoney, used to cut the ballfields at San Bruno Park.

Kris Martinsen is a few years younger than me and went to a different high school, but I may have covered a game or two of his back when I worked at the San Mateo Times.

In swapping a few emails with Kris, I also learned that we have also both lived in Aptos and Victorville. What are the chances of that? Anyway, I'll keep my eye on the Hawks' progress the rest of the season.
