Chief Billdt clarifies
Police Chief Michael Billdt wants his position to be clear to the public ...
.., that he is merely following the law.
Billdt has taken a bit of flak over Councilman Rikke Van Johnson's request to review 9-1-1 tapes from Aug. 19, when police clashed with residents in a predominately black community on the West side. The incident occurred when police showed up in force at a vigil for a man who'd been killed the day before.
Johnson, responding to community outrage, demanded the tapes. After conferring with the city attorney, Billdt said the tapes would not be turned over.
Billdt said an investigation into the incident is being conducted.
Billdt wished to make clear Thursday that he never told Johnson anything about not investigating the situation, only that the councilman could not review the tapes.

Obviously the chief hides behind the law. He could give up the tapes if he wanted to, but the law protects him, so he won't do it.
If there's really nothing to hide, divulge the tapes!
Ah, but of course there's something to hide. The department has always beat, disrespected and unlawfully searched poor black people in SB. It's the way things are done. Keeping tapes secret is critical to keeping THAT fact away from the white people who read the newspaper.
What Hogwash! "Hides behind the law..." You should be ashamed. Chief Billdt has sworn to uphold the law. He will investigate and take action based on the facts, not political pressure or rascist taunts. Which is just as it should be.
In this thread's opening spirit of clarification:
Your final sentence would lose the offensive tone were it to read, "Keeping the tapes [from the public] is critical to keeping that fact away from people aware of the situation.
White people are but one type that read the newspaper. Even in the less affluent regions of the world people devour their daily rags. It is not at all an activity relegated to Caucasoids.
A court order could be requested for the release of the tapes. I am not in a position to make that one of my priorities, are you, or, is someone you know?
There have been perceived abominations committed by SBPD against more than one segment of the population. For many detailed examples, and apparently clear connections between San Bernardino City Attorney Jim Penman and SBPD problems, please visit:

I hope access to the dispatch audio record is obtained and broadcast soon, regardless of their contents. Doing so will introduce a needed level of factuality to this matter.
And, for the record, an oath is only as honorable as the person swearing to uphold it.
Exactly my point. Court orders aint needed to get tapes from a council meeting or any other public agency. police have special powers of nondisclosure, and that plays a big role in abusing power.
"perceived abomonitions?" Obviously you have no clue about the relationship between local cops and poor people in this city, especially blacks and hispanics. I'm talking about shooting them with guns and beating them with other weapons!! Did you see the Ivory Webb tape? Do you think that was out of the ordinary??
As for this crap about the chief upholding the law?? He's hiding the tapes. If you want justice, if you want fairness, you open it up!

Color Blind With Fairness On My Mind replies:
I have kept my finger on the pulse of these matters for decades and do all I can think of to make this world a better place. That’s why I knew about and posted the links for others to also become aware. The first of 3 links I provided was: http://www.goodbadcorrupt.com/index.html
Have you visited it?
Have you seen that there are more than interracial composites in the narratives and photos?
Do you know that the Caucasian former SBPD officer who made that site was shot by his fellow officers ~ not once, but twice ~ in a two-week span?
Have you seen the photos of his leg with the leg muscles removed as a result of one of these shootings?
I share your upset and frustration with the system allowing those we feel should be behind bars to remain in a position to decide which of us to refer to the system for placing behind bars while on patrol. I do everything I can to alter that reality.
In fairness, peace officers, like all people, are more good than bad.
In law enforcement, like in other areas of life, a few bad apples spoil the barrel.
Recently, an officer tried to seek justice was foiled at every turn. That often happens. The officers that risk their careers, and report the perception of risking their lives, to raise the veil and reveal the dastardly goings on behind the badge are brave and admirable people.
My hope is that you will do 3 things:
Continue to remain outraged and actively seek solutions;
Begin accepting that all demographics have fallen victim to unethical police procedures;
Direct your upset to the officers at fault; stop painting with such a broad brush.
We should not become blinded by our outrage.
We should remember that we have rights and privileges here that others around the world will not experience in their lifetimes.
Our department has room for improvement, but even as-is it is better than most.
There are many fine officers seeing the inner workings daily and living with a level of frustration that makes ours appear insignificant by comparison.
Do you have any suggestions for affording a climate that will allow them to come forward safely and denounce the events they have first-hand evidence of without reprisals and reprimands enveloping them in a cloud that quickly snuffs out their continued employment on the force, leaving them unemployed, in fear of their lives and unsuccessful in their quests for justice?
Just this week I was told about an illuminating event for a local community member with a high activity level in our city. While out with the spouse in a different vehicle than usual, they were pulled over. When the patrolman arrived at the driver’s window, he began speaking in an unpleasant manner. The passenger, recognizing the voice, leaned to peek out the window while asking, “Officer So & So, is that you?” The reported change in the officer’s demeanor was sudden and dramatic. There was no citation issued after a very cordial brief dialogue.
This left my peer no less outraged. The episode was shared with me in hopes of us coming up with a way to respond to it that will provide betterment of SBPD. We, and there are many of us counted in that “we”, have yet to discover the solution. We will not stop until we find it.
It bears noting that there are still traditional, male dominated households in our community. The male affords the female the opportunity to devote time and efforts toward volunteer activities in our city. In time, the female is recognized and enjoys a modicum of preferential treatment, in difference to her contributions to the community.
The male however, out of the limelight while earning the wages that allow for volunteerism in his family, does not receive the same treatment until he, too, he known and afforded it by relation.
In the meantime, the typical interactions, experienced when alone are shared and allow the other spouse to know the true treatment of the public by some members of the force.
One of the best weapons we have in combating this scourge, so far, are these anonymous family members of the more visible leaders throughout our city. They provide those in a position to enact change with reliable instances of inappropriate behavior. On occasion, they are able to witness it themselves, as in the anecdote related above.
I hope knowing this provides you with some sense of hope. There is reason for hope. Like the silent termite, quietly working away until the mighty edifice topples, many dedicated individuals are discretely toiling toward resolving this problem for the benefit of us all.
Color Blind With Justice On My Mind
After looking at the Good Bad Corrupt website, and reviewing the book I saw some disturbing words that have reportedly been spoken by Chief Billdt.
All problems start at the top. If he truely coined the phrase "San Beanernegro" what else would he say or do to the minority community?
What also concerns me are the allegations made against Billdt by the owner of the GBC site, and the fact that there have been so many Federal lawsuits recently filed against Billdt by members of his own Department. This would lead one to believe that where there is smoke, there has to be fire.
It looks like the problems truely start at the top. Fix the top, and you should be able to fix the problem!
Mayor Morris is A-OK by me! There was no better candidate! Still no one person however qualified, intelligent, and intent upon bringing positive change to San Bernardino can do it all alone. There are community liaisons and others to help bridge that gap.
I think the problem is in the unaddressed need for monthly meetings between insightful and active members of the community and the mayor to begin focusing on specific issues.
If we, the people of the community with an active participation and interest in San Bernardino, could sit down with Mayor Morris once a month, or even quarterly, to directly share with him our knowledge of the state of our community with regard to those areas we each focus on, I sincerely believe progress would be made.
As it is, this vital step in our road to success remains missing. We suppose that the team of specialized liaisons are listening, observing and reporting to the mayor our areas of importance. I am not so sure the job is being done as well as it would were we to meet directly with the mayor on a regular basis to be 100% sure he is informed of the things that concern us most.
It is also important to note that this would provide a tool for holding the mayor accountable, from meeting to meeting, for any actions taken, or not, to remedy the items presented to us.
Right now, as things are, Mayor Morris deserves the benefit of doubt; he may not be receiving updates on the things we hope, but have no way of being directly sure, are making their way to him through the liaison processes.
We need to ask Mayor Morris to arrange his schedule to accommodate a minimum of quarterly meetings with community leaders proven to be active in San Bernardino. Then, we can prepare an outline, listing the “San Beanxxxxxgro” term attributed to Billdt, and all the other items that give a clear argument for enacting change.
Who’s going to make the request?
Who’s going to prepare the outline?
Who’s going to do more than blog about what needs doing?
Will it be YOU that improves San Bernardino?
