Mark it down: Morris throws down gauntlet
On Monday this Sun blog broke the news that Mayor Pat Morris was a lock to endorse the opponent of City Attorney James F. Penman.
In response to that blog entry, a reader posted an invite to the fateful time and place where it will occur.
"I hope to see every registered voter in San Bernardino present and accounted for at Ray's Deli, from 5:30 - 7:30 this Thursday evening," the responder wrote.
Just before Route 66 Rendezvous roars to a start, Morris will ratchet up the already white hot political heat ...
The message continues to advertise the: "Meet & Greet" the first contender for the office of City Attorney in a very long time is not to be missed by those who fancy themselves "in the know" and part of the informed electorate."
Marianne Milligan will have Morris endorsement at Ray's Diner, sources tell us. James Mulvihill could get it there too, bolstering his odds against powerful incumbent Wendy McCammack in the race for the 7th ward.
Helping oust Penman and McCammack would be arguably Morris biggest political victory. Being rebuffed would devastate his political power and likely spell the end of any notions of moving forward with a sweeping agenda.
The stakes are about to get very high.

It's very refreshing that San Bernardino has a Mayor who cares so much about the city that he will risk his political career to take the right stand.
That kind of leadership is hard to find and I hope the voters of San Bernardino appreciate Pat Morris.
Shauna is right!
The first, and most effective, thing we can do to show our appreciation is visit our local Registrar of Voters’ Office, at 777 E. Rialto Avenue, in San Bernardino. It is located just east of Waterman Avenue, in the long low-lying building on the southern side of Rialto Avenue, before the Lena Road stop sign. The people are friendly and the parking’s free. Ask the Registrar of Voters (ROV) for a few Voter Registration Forms. Take these forms with you wherever you go and share them freely, (They are free!), with everyone you meet at school, church, work, the gym, shopping... you name it! You can even organize a little get-together to socialize and make sure everyone's voter registration is correct, e.g.: New address? You need to re-register!
That way, as many folk as possible will be able to cast a vote and help better San Bernardino's future. You can rest assured the opposition is devoting lots of time, energy and resources to this essential step in the process! Without it, there is nothing further but ineffectual hand wringing and whining.
To truly make a difference, we must each be registered to vote and turn out on 11/6/2007!
It’s critical to remember: If you can't visit your polling place and vote in-person, PLEASE, request, complete and mail your ABSENTEE VOTER BALLOT __YOURSELF__!
The extent of absentee voter ballot fraud here is infamous; you want to be certain your ballot is cast for the candidate/s you prefer!
If your schedule doesn't permit you to visit the ROV, I will be gladly supply you with as many of the forms as you request, at your convenience. Together, we DO make a difference, daily!

I see the Sun is a sponsor for the Orange Show Speedway, at least that is the idea I am getting from the large advertisement on the back crash wall. HOWEVER, when the races are over with, why do I not see anything written up about them in the Sun the very next day, or even a few days later? The Press Enterprise ALWAYS prints the outcome of the events in the Sunday paper, the very next day. What's the matter with our sports editor, who is supposed to be a gearhead (that is slang for one who loves motorsports)? He does have articles on the big boys in NASCAR but not much on the local scene. What's up with THAT???
Gerry, as a former women's section editor of a countywide weekly, (Orange County's El Sol Latino, 1986 - 1991), I encourage you to send a letter to Sun requesting column space to handle this special interest of yours - and the many patrons justifying the continuation of the sport in San Bernardino.
I even envision you expanding this to an opportunity to offer the week's Sun edition with the coverage at the venue. Why not? You can do it, if you try!
Make the dream Reality!
