Mayor Pat Morris set to endorse Penman opponent

In hindsight, the question always seemed to be when, not if, Mayor Pat Morris would endorse the opponent of City Attorney James F. Penman. Now, the endorsement seems more imminent than ever ...

Two sources confirmed on Monday afternoon that Morris plans to throw his public support behind Marianne Milligan, a deputy code enforcement director and former staffer in Penman's office.
Morris has made clear again and again his disdain for Penman's work in city government, most recently with a biting public criticism at a council meeting in August. Among other rebukes, Morris called Penman "asleep at the switch" when it came to managing the city's parolee population.
Penman has proved at least partially right in his prognostications - He called Milligan a member of Morris' "political machine" days after Milligan, then a relative unknown in this town, officailly declared her candidacy.
Sources say mailers have already gone out inviting people to Ray's Diner on E Street sometime Thursday for a Milligan fundraiser. It is there that Morris will presumably make his announcement, probably with a few sharp barbs about Penman's performance over the past 20 years.
Penman said on Monday that Milligan's campaign is reeling and needs any boost it can get.

Good Early Tuesday Morning, San Bernardino!
How exciting it is to see a blog up & active at this important time in our city!

I hope to see every registered voter in San Bernardino present and accounted for at Ray's Deli, from 5:30 - 7:30 this Thursday evening!

It is best that we base our votes on personal experiences and interactions rather than the impersonal hyperbole of mass mailings & sign placements.
Regardless of whom garners your vote, let it be for what you have heard with your own ears & observed with your own eyes.
This opportunity to "Meet & Greet" the first contender for the office of City Attorney in a very long time is not to be missed by those who fancy themselves "in the know" and part of the informed electorate.

Please, avail yourself of this - and any other - opportunity to decide for yourself. It is my hope to never again hear, "I voted for "x" because that was the most popular candidate ~ didn't you see all the signs and mailers? The campaigns handle that; the signs and mailers aren't sold like AHA Hearts for $1 a pop, then, put on display; 99% are placed by campaign workers! Signs are not an indication of popularity, they are an indication of ability and desire to plaster the town with signs, period.
So, this time, this historic time, this monumental time, this potentially pivitol time, please, turn out for the meet-and-greets; turn out for the debates, if any; and, please, turn out at the polls - ready to cast your WELL-INFORMED vote for the candidate of your choice!

Marianne Milligan’s Meet & Greet The Candidate at recently relocated Ray’s Deli, tucked into a corner of the small strip mall across from Pep Boys with also relocated Windjammer Emporium, was a tremendous success. Even though the parking lot is quite large, it could not accommodate the many people turning out to turn in their campaign contributions in person, collect their initial supply of yard signs and campaign literatures and witness the immergence of a new dawn for San Bernardino! Vehicles circled the rectangular lot, smoothly steering into vacated slots in a never-ending stream of attendees from all segments of San Bernardino pouring into the popular lunch and nightlife spot to gush enthusiastic support for her promises to change the guard from toxic and terrorizing to capable and communicative. What a long overdue breath of fresh air!

From those with high-ranking county positions to others content to stop at organizing the block they reside on, from tiny alternative-fueled to gas-guzzling monstrous vehicles, from nattily attired to modestly clothed participants: the all-encompassing diverse support for Marianne Milligan as San Bernardino’s new City Attorney was evident in every aspect of the event!

There is now room only for the vibrancy and vitality that Marianne Milligan is providing as our next city attorney in San Bernardino. Registered voters of all colors, creeds, ethnicities, persuasions, genders and physical and financial abilities merged as one body to hoist Marianne Milligan onward and upward toward the office all agree she is best suited for holding!

Remember, Jim Penman himself selected her to groom as his successor before being trounced in his bid for mayor and subsequently demoting her for reasons that glare of insecurity on his part. This time, Jim Penman was right on both counts: Marianne Milligan is the best candidate for assuming the office of San Bernardino City Attorney. And, Jim Penman is rightly insecure about his future as San Bernardino’s City Attorney because Marianne Milligan is, indeed, a far more desirable person for the position!

The overwhelming sense throughout the constantly changing crowd was a mixture of relief that someone better has finally arrived; giddy jubilation that long maintained prayers for another element to better San Bernardino have finally been answered, and most refreshing of all, optimistic renewed hope that things are about to get demonstrably better for us all!

There are many ways to join the winning team and help ensure victory for the first candidate in decades to come forward and offer us a real change for the better.
