Reporter back; five weeks of bruising politics awaits

| | Comments (2) |

Time to resume business as UNusual at the blog ... where the looming Nov. 6 election whips normally mild mannered men and women into cutthroats in business suits, and reporters into sleepless droids, tracking the herds' every move ...

Thanks to The Insider for filling in with some nuggets from the Editorial Board meetings and the latest news on the firecracker-hot Penman-Milligan race. Nice to see another keen voice chipping in news you can get nowhere else.

Political signs illegally posted? Expect a lot of this ... in my next post I'll throw down the gauntlet to you, our plucky band of truth-seeking readers and responders.

As for you, the responders, key point: Less than two short weeks ago, this reporter was a lonely howl in a desolate cyberspace, ripping off multiple posts and news updates daily.

Crickets.

No more. Comments, good comments, are flooding in. Keep it up. At last count about 100, with the daily pace consistently accelerating.

A blog is only as strong as those who regularly read and contribute. This blog has grown strong.

Once again I emphasize that the professionl bloggers whose only reason for posting two or three pages to remove any chance for another opinion to be viewed will only be around for another month. This type of under handedness is typtical of what our Good City Attorney Jim Penman faces in the month to come. Let's all hope that reason and values will out malice and mischief from the Morris camp. You can check this out yourself if you try to enter an opinion in the two or three prior subjects.

The truth be told, Joe, less than 24 hours after placing that post, at 3:55PM today, my newly 10 year-old daughter answered, “Good afternoon, this is the Atanasova residence. May I ask who is calling?” The man must have been exceptionally gruff because she looked perplexed and silently passed the receiver to me.

I said, “Hi there! This is Susana!” A voice rumbled, “Why you pickin’ on Joseph? Why you pickin’ on Joe Ortiz”.

I replied, “I’m not picking on him. We’re engaging in political discourse. Who is this?”

The voice changed tone and said, “This is Scott, Scott Ortiz. Why are you picking on him”

I was nonplussed a moment and reached to click the monitor over to the blog while reiterating that it’s nothing personal.

I was saying, “As a matter of fact…” and reaching to click to the blog entry where I happened to have mentioned exactly that, that we agree about Chas Kelley and this isn’t a personal dialogue but a political debate, to substantiate my words to him when the phone went dead.

I tried *69, but he called from a “Private Name, Private Number” at 3:55PM today, 10.01.07, so that did not work.

SO Joe, before you continue writing about "malice & mischief" from others, you need to check you and yours, because that is exactly where the malice & mischief is coming from in my life today.
KNOW THIS:
1. These gangland mafia-style intimidation techniques are beneath contempt.
2. A man calling a private residence in such a manner as to cause a newly 10 year-old little Catholic school girl to silently pass the phone, at a loss for words, is despicable.
3. This is our home, respect the sanctity of it as we respect the sanctity of yours.
4. The "camp", as you call them, that gave you our unlisted telephone number obtained from official San Bernardino documents won't dial and leave a record of their call ~ they use gullible pawns to do their dirty work, like today.
5. I have no doubt that you feel as strongly about your preference for office as I do about mine. Don't go off the deep end and take this from a purely political discourse to a personal attack on a lady willing to speak her mind.
6. I understand this Scott fellow may be younger than you and more imprudent ~ he wasn't calling because of anything I said as much as in defense of your views not being left uncontested. Have a word with him. Explain that this is, as I wrote in the preamble directed to you in another post at 9:16AM, today, 10.01.07, located at:

And I quote, "As an aside to Joe Ortiz and his cohorts:
It's nice to see we agree about something ~ none of this is personal, it's political discourse. ~Susana~"
I signed the copied post, "Your Friend & Neighbor Supporting Local Community & Personal Betterment In San Bernardino,
Susana Atanasova". Little did I know, a scant 6 hours later the decorum would be breeched.
7. This is America, land of the FREE, home of the BRAVE.
8. I respect your right to share your points of view and engage in political discourse. Please, respect mine.
9. We have constitutional rights to freedom of speech, please see, and share with Scott:
http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/constitution.billofrights.html
10. Please do not interpret my willingness to settle this amicably as an opportunity to ever repeat it, or allow it to be repeated again.
We are a family that participates fully in bettering this world to the best of our abilities ~ we are never to be found lounging in front of a TV, or attempting to coerce or intimidate others into acquiescence, rather we try to explain our points of view and let reason speak for itself, doing the most good possible with our lives’ time and receiving the abundant blessings surrounding our daily lives as just commensuration for those efforts.
This ugly episode was an anomaly in our lives imposed by your family that we hope your judgment and authority will reign in from this time forward.
Thank you for your anticipated swift and complete attention to this matter with your family. When discussing this with them, please do NOT ask that he call here again to apologize, she’s gone on to other things ~ it was ugly, but transitory ~ when you’re newly 10, Barbie’s take precedence over barbarism.
Your Neighbor & Friend, Agreeing On Some Things, Disagreeing On Others, But Always Willing To Engage In Political Discourse With You Online,
Susana Atanasova
