Where's Robert?

| | Comments (5) |

Our pitbull city hall reporter/blogger, Robert Rogers, is in Colorado this week speaking to college journalism students - a perk for his winning the national Al Nakkula Award for police reporting (see Robert's bio). We're filling in for him, hence the delay in getting some of your comments posted (sorry!). Rogers, by the way, is known in our newsroom as Rojo - a takeoff on Cujo and a tip of the hat to his tenacious reporting style. He didn't like the name at first, but rumor has it, he's warming up to it. Not that it matters. Rojo he is, and will always be!

It appears that RoJo may be maturing a bit, JUST A BIT. Let's hope those who influence the slants that the editors spin on our good City representatives, Penman, Derry, Kelley, and McCanmmack, will not cause him to go the way of CUJO.

So what now? A divergent stance is indicative of rabidity?
It seems to stand to reason that the city's paper be reflective, to some degree, of the expressed majority of the population it serves.
Still, unbiased reporting and presentation of factual information - not self-serving hyperbole - are welcome in a local newspaper.
A reporter revealing the truth is welcome here, be that truth the impetus for revisiting a former opinion, or reaffirming it.
The truth leaves all quarter of rabidity to the more aptly suited ranters who staunchly maintain their stance despite mounting evidence to the contrary of their ill-formed and misguided opinions.

Once again, this psuedo- playright has eaten up all the blog space in the subject of "expected endorsements". That is great, the more time your vile efforts are spent in attacking the good candidates in this election, the better it will be for real people to learn without any personal input from you. Remember, good citizens of San Bernardino, your best and only choices for good representaion is to vote for Jim Penman, Wendy McCammack, and Chas Kelley in this election. EVERYONE else will be a bobblehead "YES Mayor" choice. Do not forget Betty Dean Anderson, she has the past experience and her life's business is not being in the revolving door bailbonds business that is fueled by parolee and probationer transfers to our City. She has the moxie to stand up for the CITY, the entire City.

You may come to rue the day you wrote those words, but yes, we best not forget Bette.
When reading the September 29th SUN coverage of sixth ward candidates I noticed the atypical entry: “Age: Not Provided”. Knowing the award-winning tenacity of SUN reporters, I found it odd Bette would adamantly refuse to reveal her age. Both Honorable San Bernardino City Councilman Rikke Van Johnson and the other opponent in the race for 6th Ward City Council Seat were forthcoming in providing this information to the press for publishing to the voters and other readership. Intrigued, I did some rudimentary investigating into the facts.
The results lead one to conclude Bette does not want the voters to have the opportunity to know she has more promise as a centenarian than as a modern-day centurion.
My reliable source reveals that Bette Dean’s employment as a high school security guard when in her 50s. Using a simple process, my source subtracted the ages her children were during the year Bette worked with her injured finger, subtracted that from their current ages (40’s), added the difference to Bette’s estimated 50’s age at that time and concluded, “Bette must be in either her very late 70’s, or in her 80s now”.
There you have it. Bette is not forgotten.
Neither is her slapping the child of my source when her injured finger was accidentally brushed against in the bustling hallways of a local high school. My source went to administration and pleaded on Bette’s behalf that they NOT fire her for striking her child in a manner believed to be reflexive. That should quell any suspicions about the veracity of these statements.
Late 70’s? Early 80’s? Bette can surely remember her own age and share it, or let the current best estimate stand.
