Deadly shooting on West side SB Saturday night

| | Comments (5) |

Details are sketchy but this much is clear: A 22-year-old man was killed and three boys wounded - one critically - in a hail of gunfire at Medical Center Drive and Ninth Street last night.

This is in one of the five proposed areas of Operation Phoenix expansion and will probably trigger renewed calls that the anti-crime program should be focused next on the West side.

This is a very troubled neighborhood, not far from where children - incdluding 11-year-old Anthony Ramirez and 14-year-old Jarred Mitchell were gunned down last year.

Below is a story launched on the Sun Web site this morning ...

SAN BERNARDINO - A 22-year-old man died and a 9-year-old boy was in critical condition following a shooting Saturday night.
The shooting occurred before 8 p.m.

Officers had taped off the crime scene on Medical Center Drive, south of 9th Street, late Saturday.

When police responded to the scene they found Devon McGee, 22, of San Bernardino on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital and declared dead, according to a San Bernardino police news release.

Within minutes of the shooting, three boys suffering from gunshot wounds arrived at the hospital. They all came from the shooting that took the life of McGee.

One of the victims was the 9-year-old boy. The boy had been hit by a stray bullet as he approached a taco stand with his father. The boy is in critical condition at a local hospital.

The other two victims were 14- and 16-years-old.
