Union leader hits phones for Joseph Turner campaign

| | Comments (0) |

We reported last Friday that Mayor Pat Morris was suddenly ubiquitous on telephone lines pitching Milligan for city attorney.

Now, thanks to a tip from you, SBNOW readers, we've nailed down the news that Union President Rich Lawhead is on the phone hyping Joseph Turner, (see pic below taken Sept. 6 during a Sun interview), as the right guy for city clerk ...

Lawhead's recorded voice has been on your phones for days touting Joseph Turner's improbable candidacy. This reporter hasn't heard the message, but Lawhead said on Tuesday that the key message is that Turner is the guy who will crack down on unlicensed rental properties, many of which are a haven for "sex predators," Lawhead said.

"Yeah, we did a phone call for Joe, in support of his campaign," Lawhead said. "It's my voice, and I say that we support him and his candidacy."

This reporter asked Lawhead - whose union has now given Turner thousands of dollars AND gone to the phones - if the union rank and file are going to walk the streets, going door to door for the Turner campaign.

"We might before it's over, but we haven't yet," he said.

What's important here is the revelation that the union is solidly behind Turner, a fact some questioned after the shocking endorsement of a man who has made many enemies in the city with his rabid style and former anti-illegal immigration activisim.

With money and phone pitches backing up the endorsement, it's authenticity is now unquestionable.

Every elected official in town has publicly endorsed City Clerk Rachel Clark.
