Kelley looking strong

Some thought the 5th Ward was the most likely to end in a runoff, mostly because it boasted three strong candidates.

Doesn't look like that's happening, with incumbent Chas Kelley clocking a strong 62 percent of the absentees.

Here are the early results:

CHAS A. KELLEY 738 62.49%
CAROLYN A. TILLMAN 272 23.03%
RICK AVILA 135 11.43%
RANDY LEE 34 2.88%
Write-In 2 0.17%
Total 1,181 100.00%

Tillman and Avila have to be disappointed with those numbers. Hard to see Kelley dropping from 62.5 percent to sub-50 percent, but that is clearly Tillman's hope.

This also could be an indication of how unpopular Morris is in the 5th Ward. The moment he endorsed Tillman, Kelley went on the attack, and it looks effective thus far.

Strong voter representation and facilitating resident concerns/issues is what the 5th Ward finds in Chas Kelley. He is trying hard to improve the quality of life within his Ward and his progress is easily measured. Unafraid to stand tall against the current Mayor and his special interest projects (that are not working as crime [murder] is soaring within the City) makes Chas work harder to ensure the 5th Ward is the best it can be with the limitations imposed upon him by the Mayor and his chosen few. Perhaps the voters of this Ward have signaled a strong message to the sitting Mayor that his leadership and vision is not in the best interest of the City by electing someone who is strong and instep with the voice of people. This just also may signal a change in leadership for San Bernardino is in the future if the blind eye of special interests is not refocused. San Bernardino and especially the 5 Ward residents want and expect more than what has become the status quo and has RE-elected an individual to lead the way for the remainder of the City to sit-up and take notice. Congrats to Councilman Kelley, now lets go back to work as a lot remains to be done.
