Paul Sanborn: If there's a runoff, I'm with McCammack

| | Comments (5) |

Just chatted with 7th Ward candidate Paul Sanborn by phone. He said that if he comes in third and there's a runoff between incumbent Wendy McCammack and challeger Jim Mulvihill, he will go to work for the McCammack campaign ...

Sanborn said he used to be with Mulvihill, and that in 1999 when Mulvihill lost a runoff to McCammack he supported Mulvihill.

Sanborn says the break with Mulvihill is over development strategy. He said the ANR project on third street, where the developer has won council support to not require the owners of the mixed use development to live and work there, paving the way for absentee ownership of the businesses on the first floor, is an example of how he sees business development like McCammack, not Mulvihill.

He also said the the development of warehouses just west of the 215 freeway were a bad idea and should have been looked at for Cal State San Bernardino developments.

"I'm just more aligned with McCammack at this point," Sanborn said.

Not sure what this means for the race. For there to be a runoff, Sanborn has to take significant votes. Not sure if that will happen, but this could bolster McCammack's prosects in the event of a runoff.

Mulvihill has mayor Pat Morris' endorsement, but no reports have come in of Morris actually offering campaigning support to the retired Cal State professor.

I want to publicly thank Paul and Vicky Sanborn for their words of confidence. Throughout this campaign Paul and his wife have been gentlemen and ladies, greeting me with hugs and well wishes, and have kept their promise of a clean campaign. They are fine upstanding residents of the 7th Ward and I am proud to represent them. I agree with Paul on many issues and will use his expertise in several areas of development (and others) in order to facilitate REAL progress in this city if Paul happens to not win this election. Honestly, I hope you will afford me the opportunity to continue serving you, but Paul's comments are encouraging and greatly appreciated. Please vote on Tuesday. This city needs everyone to get involved if we ARE going to make real progress.

Thank God some people still have class, grace and manners. Hats off to Sanborn and McCammack.

I am voting for Wendy, she has done such a dedicated job as our council person. However, if Wendy wasn't running, I would have voted for Paul.

Their families can be proud of both of these candidates. Their honesty is like a breathe of fresh air. Particularly since the Mayor's office is so suffocating, choking the life force out of our city.

He was only running to split the votes, anyway!

Boy, I guess "resident" doesn't know anything about Paul Sanborn. He is a man of his conviction.

I spoke with Mr. Sanborn and his lovely wife at one of the debates and found him to be very straight-forward. I think that he is running because he believes that he can make a difference in this city. That is commendable.

If Mulvihill and Sanborn were the only ones running, I'd vote for Sanborn. However I think that Wendy has done a fine job and is one of the few councilperson's on the council that actually read their literature BEFORE the council meeting.
Did anyone watch yesterday's meeting? The "Fantastic Four" didn't say anything. The only councilpersons engaged were Derry, Kelly, and McCammack.
