New crime stats show persistent increase in SB

The new crime stats thru Dec. 1 have been released by the San Bernardino Police Department.

Like the rest of the monthly reports this year, it shows violent crime and overrall crime slightly up over the same period last year.

Violent crime is up 6.01 percent year-to-date, virtually assuring that the crime rate will be higher for the year in 2007 than it was in 2006.

The raw numbers show 1,992 violent crimes in the city through Dec. 1, up from 1,879 over the same time span last year.

Overall crime is up to 11,234 from 10,753 incidents, or a 4.47 percent increase.

Rumblings have been building on the city council that the crime-fighting performance is subpar, particularly in light of nearly $8 million in new police spending they approved this year, a record raise. Police Chief Michael Billdt and Mayor Pat Morris have maintained that crime is still significantly down from 2005, the last full year before both men took their respective positions.

Oh, good grief!
When are Billdt, and Morris going to admit Operation Phoenix isn't the success they would like us to believe?

If we actually had a functioning Code Enforcement, and stopped being a sanctuary for parolees, gang members and illegal aliens, we might see some improvement!

After being here for over 50 years, I resent the welcome mat out for the afore mentioned. Wake up San Bernardino! Where's your pride?

More excuses for poor performance! Give me a break!

The justification is that they are doing better than Zimmon and Valles? Wow! Now, there is a reason to keep both in their positions! (NOT!)

Operation Phoenix in Ward 2 was NOT a success, and the new Phoenix that is rising in the 6th Ward looks just as doomed.

And we the citizens are going to keep getting more absurd, ridiculous, and nonsensical reasons that the crime rate is going up……but the theme will be the same - - it isn’t their fault.

Is lack of management skills their fault?

Councilman Van Johnson said at the 1-07-08 meeting after I talked about a subject that was not to his liking that he welcomed any "positive and non divisve" positions when the taxpayer/voter was at the podium stating their point of views. As I pointed out to him a couple of times when other unhappy taxpayers spoke up, "these are the real taxpayers". I do not know why more taxpayers don't step up and give their views on graffit out of control(has anyone seen any part of the so called "graffiti task force"?) I am pretty sure that when heat is generated about graffiti, the Chief looks at the closest person to him at that moment and says "tag, you're it, you are now the GTF person. This way the heat is deflected for a moment and he can say we have a graffiti task force.
The Mayor took the guts out of CODE when he gave Mr. Baude the added title of Director of OP/PHnx AKA
Phoenix/Albatross. Now, the SBPD offered one person to run the PALS program; however, now the PARKS Director is running the PALS program. Another City department gets the guts ripped out(UNLESS you are in the Phonx/Albatross area.
Another way this extravagant Operation Pho/Albatross cost us is measured not only in tax dollars, but in REAL unsafe conditions and quality of life issues by not having our SBPD in our neighborhoods as they used to be.
We read about the loud Westside groups not wanting our Cops in their area unless they are "sensitive" and are "non-shooters". What I would say to them (if my voice meant anything at all) is that let those who complain because our Cops defend themselves just not call the SBPD.Let them try to reason with the wife beaters, robbers, murderers, gangster child killers, and thugs with guns. I would say that they should not call 911 because we do not run a police valet service that caters to those who do not want the COPs to defend themselves. We would much rather keep our COPS in our neighborhoods protecting our children and grand children.
We can be assured that Mr. Penman would not have given us THE BIRD aka Operation Pho/Albatross if he had been elected Mayor. He also would have taken care of the illegals who protest and wave their non-American flags. He would have gladly given them a bus ticket back to their country of orgin.
We are waiting now for the Mayor to declare our City as the homeless shelter City, the Illegal sanctuary City, and soon to come, the adopt a parolee group home in your neighborhood City. How insulated is this Mayor from the taxpayers? Is everyone afraid to tell him that the emporer he does not have a new suit of clothes?
Thank God for Wendy, Chas, Neil, and Mr. Penman. They try to place reason and sanity in front of the four who are the Mayor's lackeys. If not for them watching out and being feisty when they have to be, this runaway freight train would take us all out.
