The Police Union's newest employee: Joseph Turner
Joseph Turner was hired by the San Bernardino Police Officers Association in December and has been on its payroll since Jan. 1, the former illegal immigration activist confirmed Monday.
Rumors have swirled for weeks that Turner was working for the union following his landslide defeat at the hands of incumbent Rachel Clark in November.
The maverick union was the only major local organization to support Turner, who lost in a bid for a seat on the local school board the year before.
Union President Rich Lawhead said Turner's controversial past is outweighed by what he can do for the union as a political consultant. Turner is the third person to fill the role in the last year, Lawhead said, as the union has struggled to improve community relations, hone its message and grow more effective in dealings with political and department leaders.

While Rikke Van Johnson doesn't like the idea (imagine that!!!), I believe that Mr. Turner has shown himself to be a bright young man who thinks "out of the box" when confronted with challenges.
There may be hope for the SBDP yet.
I truly think this is a bad decision for the union take make, but you cant blame them the union is used to doing and supporting those in the community whom truly dont repreresent good. Joseph Turner is a racist. Way to force the department down the drain even more.
Robert:
You obviously have taken your opinion of Joseph Turner from the usual San Bernardino gossip. Mr. Turner is not a racist. Don’t believe me? Do a Google search and some light reading….find the truth.
And this hire makes more sense than the new "community liaison" Rafael Rawls.
But Hey! It is only taxpayer $$$! Why worry???
I did come across some light reading about Turner. Turns out he won't distance himself from white supremacists and Neo-Nazi's who support his cause. "If I can't keep a person from standing next to me and spitting in my mouth, how can I possibly remove somebody who's waving a Nazi flag," he states in a May 17, 2007 Press Enterprise article. Although in that very same article he states, "I have no problem being the one out front taking the shots," said Turner, when it comes to supporting his Immigration Law. Guess distancing himself from white supremacists and Neo Nazis isn't worth the shots.
Good grief PM! You're beating a dead horse!
Turner isn't a racist.
Here you are, bringing up something off a REAL racist site! I believe it was IndyMedia?
No one can tell another person to get off a public sidewalk, if they aren't blocking passage.
Leave the hit pieces, come up with some real facts.
Obviously Tori you didn't read the whole statement and just read "white supremacists and Neo-Nazi" and flew of the handle. I'm not calling Joe Turner a racist two comments above I'm merely stating facts from a "Press Enterprise" article, if they are apart of IndyMedia, my apologies.

It originated on the IndyMedia site, they are the ones that used it to falsely accuse Joe of being a White Supremest.
The P.E. needs to double check their sources, Indy has a tendency to "doctor" their videos and photos. Anyone that supports the rule of law, is a racist as far as they are concerned.
