Mike Miller: Not talkin'

Went to West Valley Detention Center for a third jailhouse conversation with accused child molester Mike Miller.

Not to be. Miller saw me and turned and walked away. A wasted morning. I hate going to the dungeon-like detention facility and leaving empty-handed. Not sure why he suddenly doesn't want to talk.

Maybe he didn't like my neck-tie?

Comments

I can understand why a man locked up alone charged with molestation would walk away from you, even he may have enough judgement to identify scum

Thanks for that Bruce. I suppose if some people didn't like me, I wouldn't be doing my job.

But "scum"? Why not explain your reasoning further.

Robert Rogers

FACT:
Robert, I think it was horrible for you to post up the D.A.'s full report because it identified Witness #2 in it and she is now scared. I wouldn't call you scum, but I would say you're a bit unfair to people who are trying to be good. Why didn't you post the connections between the non-profits? I gave you all the info you needed and you still stand by Morris. To be impartial, you would have to present everything. You could have blacked-out identifying info on witnesses to protect them. Did you know Morris and his little buddy tossed up every possible road block for a church?
OPINION:
They would be competition for these charities. I think Morris might be not talking to you now because he may have some sort of a deal to keep quiet about what he knows about other Operation Phoenix operations.

Serenah,

Look, if you think I would make "deals" with Morris (the man who has been under fire due to the reportage of me and my colleague), that is your perogative. If I'm making "deals" with Morris, he's probably wondering why the heck the editorials and stories have been so withering to his program over the past few weeks.

On the witness, we did not identify anyone. We merely provided a public document to our readers. Get your "facts" right.

As for the connections you allege, I told you I'd look into them. I also told you that I didn't consider you a reliable source because, frankly, you struck me as unreasonable and incapable of a rational conversation.

Later, I had to erase a comment you made about Kevin Hawkins' photo because it struck me as crossing the line into bigotry.

So, there is a simple response. You are welcome, indeed invited, to read and post, just don't make racist comments.

Robert Rogers

More than likely he didn't know it was you when he was told he had a visitor. Perhaps he was hoping to see a more firendly (i.e. family?) (NOt that you'r not a nice guy - I've met you many times and you were always very polite!)face? He's probably been advised by council to keep his mouth shut!

Thanks Shan! Yeah, it was just a bit surprising because we've talked in jail twice before ...

Thanks for reading and writing ...

Robert Rogers

Though I can't imagine why you'd be wearing a tie in July, Robert!

Stating that someone has a history is not racist. If you're going to call me a racist, why don't you look into the fact that I'm working with Dr. Shirley Moore to start a chapter of the NAACP out here. I'm not even caucasion (an American mix, INCLUDING a touch of black) and it shouldn't MATTER if you trust me, or not. I gave you links to their OWN websites and their OWN words. I wasn't saying YOU were cutting deals with Morris...I was saying Miller might have a deal giong with Morris. Get YOUR facts straight. That's just plain rude.

Furthermore, Witness #2 was VERY upset. If there's a monkey, two fish and a lizzard who see you do a dirty deed and I say that a mammal told on you, you KNOW it was the monkey. You gave away her job...BRILLIANT!

I don't really think you're a "bad" reporter. Don't misunderstand. I am frustrated that this whole ordeal is even happening in the city I love. It's unnerving because I watch these people suffer every day and I can do little to help them. I may press the issue that it's important to publish everything, but that's because I have seen this first-handedly. I care and care and care, until I can't do any more. I don't think it's fair to tell these suffering families that when their social-worker said the paper would never cover it that it comes true. Furthermore, you are right, I am NOT nice when I feel like someone who could help doesn't care to. If I was ever rude, I apologize. I do want this to get better: for everyone...

Serenah,

Last I checked, not being "caucasian" isn't evidence of not being racist.

The truth is you can have your opinions and post them all you want. Just, like I said before, don't make comments that appear to any reasonable people to be bigoted.

As for Witness #2 losing a job over the DA report, I simply don't believe you. You've cried wolf too many times.

If, however, someone at parks and rec really did lose their job over providing anonymous information to the DA investigators, you should give them my phone number. One story in the paper about that, and every First Amendment Attorney in the area will be begging to represent them in a suit against the city.

Robert Rogers

Witness #2 didn't lose her job...she was IDENTIFIED by the fact that it stated where she worked. PLENTY of people, including witness #1, lost their job with Operation Phoenix over this. You KNEW I wasn't a racist because I've told you I was helping to start an NAACP chapter out here from the very beginning. You may get to say whatever you want on your blogs, but you are wrong for defaming my name. That was a personal attack and it was uncalled for. Print whatever you're going to print. Post whatever you want to post. It's clear the truth doesn't matter to you. I've never "cried wolf" with you and I gave you all you needed for a very complete story; however, you'd rather call someone who is doing good in the community a racist than to accept truth from someone you, personally, do not like. I hope you enjoy your little bubble.

Serenah,

thanks, as always, for writing.

Rev. Voight,

Thanks for your comments.

Serenah posted a comment about Kevin Hawkins. It appeared to me to smack of bigotry, so I erased it, as that violates our very permissive policies.

I have not called Serenah a racist. I inferred her comment to have a bigoted tone.

Perhaps that was not her intent. If I misunderstood her intent, I am sorry.

That said, the comment will stay erased, and comments like it will be erased as well.

As you can see by the above stuff that I let fly, Serenah is welcome to write nearly anything she wants.

So thank you again Rev. Voight for writing. I appreciate your insights.

Good luck in your pursuits.

Robert Rogers

All I said was that Hawkins has a history and I pondered why people given these positions always seem to have histories. Robert Rogers was CLEARLY trying to make me out to be a racist by implication. I would hate for someone who was the same race as Hawkins to think I wouldn't help them because of your comment, so I'll say this, once and for all: I am not a racist. I have many nationalities running through my blood. I am helping to open a chapter of the N.A.A.C.P. out here in San Bernardino with Dr. Shirley Moore. (For those of you who don't know what the N.A.A.C.P. is, it's the "National Association FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE," a civil rights activist group.) CLEARLY: I am not a racist. The very implication that I am, or that I said something that could even be misconstrued as being said in a bigoted tone is wrong. I know the English Language is subjective; however, it's not THAT subjective.

Mr. Powers....tsk, tsk, tsk. It's important to have accurate reporting and you know that Serenah's Angels works very hard to report factual information. If you can provide proof that her findings are incorrect then please state so, otherwise zip it. We'd believe her over you any day because quite simply you appear to be the racist one. Now, listen up: Start reporting the TRUTH. Look into her allegations and help us expose the CPS corruption. We are trying to save children so please don't make light of this serious subject.

So the story is about "some words" of serena that you deleted, or about facts ?
Mr Rogers, you seem to have an agenda.

No agenda here, just reporting and keeping the dialogue flowing.

As I've said again and again, Serenah and everyone else are free to comment.

I deleted a comment Serenah wrote about Hawkins.

Now I'm curious ... Serenah, what, exactly is Mr. Hawkins' history that you keep alluding to?

Robert Rogers

Not until you research the connections I sent to you and show me you'll report honestly. I'll bet when you ask Morris, he'll fly off the handle- so be careful how you put it, for your own good. We can't have any reporters getting into trouble for trying to do right. I never cry wolf. I may be passionate about this, but it's important because kids are suffering and dying out there in the ice-cold system. I'll give you everything you want in the line of evidence to back up my claims, but not until I'm certain you give a rip. If it's not enough, ask me for more. I've got five file cabinet-drawers on this.

If I were you, I'd get it out of Pat by praising his charitable side, "Oh, I understand you sit on the board of directors to...How long have you been doing that? Even while being a DCFS judge? WOW! What about any special awards? Adoption Saturdays, etc...?" Using his title with the county for promoting an adoption agency he sat on the board of directors to would be a bad thing. The adoption fairs are too far back for Morris for me to see, so I don't know about him, but the other ones...WHEW!$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!
Let me know when you're ready for proof the babies are abuse while in foster care and I'll start sending you the interviewees (INCLUDING an ex foster kid from this town) and other evidence.

Hawkins is small-time news in comparison to what the rest of Operation Phoenix is about.

Oh well ...

I asked.

Robert

I have an idea.

Serenah, why don't you explain to everyone what "Operation Phoenix is about"?

If I had to guess, I'd say that your theory is that the program is just a cover for ripping children from families and putting them into the state's care, at a profit of course.

Is that right? Please explain. I'm giving this a shot, since you apparently don't want to substantiate the remarks you made, and I deleted, about Kevin Hawkins.

Robert

Why aren't you letting the posts go through, anymore? Are you trying to make me look like I won't post it? I already published the story with four other outlets. nice game. I told you I wasn't interested in playing games. I'm far too busy. Enjoy...

To call Patience a racist could not be further from the truth.
She is a conceerned mother of two, citizen like you and a vet. patriot. Who was on the ready so people like you could try to discredit her for coming home to serve on the home front for our freedoms and rights such as you here have taken such liberties towards this woman!

Serenah,

I haven't erased any of your posts. You simply haven't answered my questions.

It seems clear that you have NO evidence and that you, for whatever reason, want to lead people to believe that there is some conspiracy that does not exist.

Please don't call me anymore. I'm not interested.

Robert Rogers

I posted this so many times it's not funny. You wouldn't allow it to go through. That was not funny. Here's Pat Morris on the board of Directors to the Children's Fund:
http://www.childrensfundsbcounty.org/board_of_directors.html

I've only erased 1 post from you, and you know why.

As for the one above, which you keep claiming I disallowed, it is right there. Maybe you're having some computer user issues? Dunno, but I am not deleting anything.

By the way, what is the significance of Morris sitting on the board of the Children's Fund (which he co-founded)?

Thanks,

Robert

Mr. Rogers,
There is tons of information that can prove corruption in the CPS system. It is from the East coast to the West Coast. It would be wonderful if a reporter would take the interests of the children to heart, and truly uncover this. I personally have researched Kansas. The facts are there how children are removed from their parents. 80.3% of children in state (KS) custody are because of non abuse non neglect. Here in Wichita, KS, our DA is not interested in convicting child molestors. Children are placed in state custody for runaway, truancy, and "out of control" behavior. This is no conspiracy, this is fact. The (federal) DHHS website has information on all grants (from our social security tax dollars) for each state. Once the state gets their greedy hands on this money, they disburse it amongst their "subcontractors". Radical groups have chipped away at our civil rights and used terms to make the people believe it is for something different. And before you know it, it becomes part of state laws. I would hope you would check out the information provided to you.

Sincerely,
Grace, SaltoftheEarth2008

Think about it. He has his charities as the most used and the most profiting from Operation Phoenix. It's making money off of the poor. Someone can say, "Hey, buddy, I don't want your charity. I don't want to add to your numbers for you to qualify for federal grants..." and Morris can force the use of his charities. They're not doing good things. 2/3 of kids under the age of 5 do not belong in foster care out here. There are even road blocks being thrown up for the competition for grants to charities that Morris and his cronies are a part of. That's SICK.

Furthermore, what of the "sweeps" done? That's totally inappropriate. The state doesn't own us. I've told you about all of this before and you just shined it on. You can't storm the poor parts of town, take their kids and sell them off without a fight. Bill Clinton came from a single parent household. He had rough times, but he became the president of the United States of America. However, over 70% of the prison population are ex foster kids and 2/3 of kids aging out of our broken system are claiming they were severely abused. THOSE are some facts you should be interested in. The neighborhoods they're sweeping aren't even really gang neighborhoods. These folks are just too poor to defend themselves.

The press are very important in a society, like ours. You help spread important news and share the collective thoughts of a community. Nobody is for child abuse (at least nobody I would support); however, there are problems on both sides of the coin that are costing children their lives. I have nothing against you. I don't think you're a bad reporter. I also think you have a choice to ignore the facts and do nothing to help the children in this community or to put in a lot of hard work (I'm sorry, but it's not going to be easy) and save them. You have the power because you are the press. You can go and look this stuff up, or you can do nothing. It's a lot of work to take on a story, like this. I know it's difficult. However, I did not get the impression that you were any sort of a push-over on the telephone. Why not put that strength toward some hardcore investigative reporting and possibly be the one reporter who was brave enough to stand up and say, "NO! It's NOT about the money! It's about children! It's about the constitution! It's about morals, ethics and intestinal fortitude!" We will still get the changes made that need to be changed, but how many children could be saved if someone with access to write about these injustices in a paper wrote about it? You could save entire families! Your very PRESENCE at a D.C.F.S. office one day when a kid shows up with marks from a foster home could force social workers to move the kid from the abusive home! You could, but would you?
