Estrada wants Billdt to "read the tea leaves"

Here's an article set to run Wednesday on the evolving story of Police Chief Michael Billdt's standing vis-a-vis the unions:

SAN BERNARDINO -- In anticipation of Wednesday's private meeting the City Council and Police Chief Michael Billdt, First Ward Councilwoman Esther Estrada all but said the chief should step down.
"I think the fact that the majority of the union has taken a vote of no confidence, and now the (support) staff has issued a vote of no confidence is a very serious thing," she said Tuesday. "I can't imagine that any administrator in that type of situation, in that type of work environment would want to remain."
"Is it time for the chief to stay or leave?," she asked later. "I think he's an intelligent man. I hope he's able to read the tea leaves on this one."
Billdt said in he's looking forward to tonight's scheduled meet with the council. He intends to stay on as chief and lead San Bernardino's crime fighting efforts.
"I'm going to continue to do the work of the city," Billdt said.
The council is scheduled to meet behind closed doors at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Billdt ascended to the top of the San Bernardino Police Department in Jan. 2006, serving first as interim chief before being confirmed in the job in May of that year.
Lately, a rift between Billdt and the rank and file has become public.
On Sept. 5, 76 percent of police union members who took part in a no confidence vote cast ballots against the police chief.
The department's support staffers followed suit on Monday when more than 95 percent of about 120 non-sworn employees voted no confidence in Billdt.
Tuesday, Billdt offered praise to those seeking to remove him from office.
"We have a great department. We have hard working officers," he said.

If Mike Billdt was truely a man of character as he trys to make the public believe, he would stand up and say for the good of the organization I have decided to take my $180k annual retirement and go home so the police department and city and move on.

Esther was being gracious in her comments, "intelligent man", I think not. If so Billdt would realize that he is a disruptive force and should pack his bags and hit the road, go home to Redlans and stay there.

Sometimes some people can,t read between the lines or see the tea leaves or take a hint. These people need the sky to fall on them or get hit by a rock before they get the message. Does Chief Billdt prefer Earl Grey or darjeeling?

Sick and tired of the BS said:

Chief Billdt has no intentions of leaving right now for two reasons:

1- He needs to promote those administrators who have done his dirty work for the last two years so that his legacy of incompetence can continue.

2- He needs to retaliate against the officers he believes have led this crusade against him. Look out Lawhead, Filson, members of the Police Officers Association board, and most recently, Yandell and the general unit. I imagine your careers have been stalled, indefinately.

I'm amazed at all the ignorant, misinformed, vicious sheep out there. I mean people. Serenahs angel doesn't have a clue. Neither does sick and tired of BS. Billdt is being railroaded and its now a vindictive twisted conspiracy with about eight disgruntled players. Its nice that behind the scenes with the exception of Estrada and probably McCammack all council members and the Mayor support him. Think they know something? He also is getting alot of community support from people who are smart enough to piece this together.

Well truth will prevail it is more a question of what dirty little secrets Billdt knows about them, not what members of the city council and the major know about Billdt.

To 'truth will prevail':

Not all of those city council members you are banking on support Billdt, I know I've talked to a couple. One even mentioned that he thought the Chief was lying.....
I don't support him - and most of my friend and neighbors don't either. The fact that Lawhead, Filson, et al. are willing to stand up in public and denounce his regime shows that there's a problem.....
Since law enforcement is usually a very inclusive group that supports their own (the thin blue line thing) this shows how bad the problem must be.

truth will prevail said:

Anonymous its Mayor and not major. And Molly your blog with the above just reinforces how misinformed you two are when you rely on neighbors, hearsay, and the people you mentioned above. If you knew how this has been twisted, spun, and manipulated over the months by some vindictive, power hungry, vengeful people that were held accountable for there poor decisions and actions and quest to ruin Billdt you would feel mighty low if your a person of values, morals, and integrity. Billdt has alot of support right now behind the scenes even with all the apathy. The corrupt will stop at nothing to drive him out. Did you know the POA fired there attorney early on because he wasn't aggressive enough with there dirty work and obtained other lawyers. Just a small tidbit. If the press ever gets steered in the right direction and privy to some characters big bucks will be made on a movie or book and they can call it "A Police Chief Destroyed"

Hey truth will prevail guess you did not realize I put the typo (major VS Mayor) in there just so you would have something to bitch about. After all you rant and rave about everything else but you could not alter the truth of the matter.....So I will say it again!

It is more a question of what dirty little secrets Billdt knows about them, not what members of the city council and the Mayor know about Billdt.

That is why he is so confident that he can literally get away with anything.

To be clear ...

Sgt. Bradley Lawrence is not in jail and has not been charged. We've never said anything of the sort.

Lawrence is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation into his alleged misconduct.

The FBI and DA are also aware of the situation.

Attorneys for defendants Lawrence allegedly illegally detained are basing their cases on his alleged behavior.

Thanks,

I guess the 95 percent no confidence vote among the non sworn of the police department and the 75 percent of the sworn means nothing. Seems to me that's more than just a "few" disgruntled cops. If you work at the police department, get your head out of the sand or out of Bildt's back pocket and you might see what's really going on there.

Been around awhile said:

In the 20 plus years I have worked for this department, we have lived through numerous debacles, public relations nightmares, and times of internal strife. Yet, through it all, we've managed to maintain our reputation as a world class agency. Throughout all of them we had leadership to help guide us through the minefields. We do not have that now.
I have never seen this department so divided and so at odds within itself.
There is an atmosphere of mistrust and rancor everywhere I look. Morale, an essential part of any organization, is all but gone. Do we still do our jobs? Of course we do. The people pay us to do them no matter what. We owe them that.
But clearly, it would be nice to have some leadership. And that is not going to happen until Chief Billdt leaves. The toll these issues are taking on the organization is undeniable.
Unless you're Chief Billdt. Then all you have to do is say you're going to continue to do the job you've been doing. Remember, Nero fiddled while Rome burned.
Chief Billdt's insistent tenure is affecting peoples' lives. Already, several people who would have moved up to fill much needed detective and sergeant postions have been shafted.
People who worked hard to prove themselves are left out in favor of grooming a captain and rewarding him for his loyalty to one man, a person of dubious character.
This is difficult for all of us, to say the least, and if Billdt won't step up and retire, taking Goggin and Kimball with him, then the council should do something to convince Mayor Head-In-Sand that this department is in real trouble. Damage is being done. Great employees, both sworn and unsworn, are increasingly bitter. What a waste.

Truth Will Prevail:

I keep reading about this "support" that Chief Billdt has in the community. It reminds me of that scene in the movie "The Princess Bride", where one character repeatedly uses the word "inconceivable". The other character says: "I do not think that word means what you think it means."

When you say "alot", it makes me think that you do not know what "alot" means.

Over 3/4ths of the POA membership voted no confidence. The general unit was even more overwhelming.

Obviously, you are one of Billdt's cronies trying to do some damage control. Billdt was so cocky, he didn't see this coming. The little lap dog on the porch with the loud bark and no bite thought he was so tough. You could see it in his smug little smile and the way he carried himself.

Fortunately, his lies and deceit finally caught up with him and he is now being revealed. Make no mistake, Billdt will be gone sooner or later and all you lap dogs to the lap dog had better start polishing your resumes.

I would advise you to remove your Augie U., Almeda or Coastal Whatever U. degrees from your resume.
