Insiders: Billdt was intent on renewing contract in recent weeks
Today's story makes clear that Mayor Morris and Chief Billdt are publicly proclaiming the chief will not serve past March.
They also indicated this has been a longterm decision that has not changed. Morris said Billdt's intention all along was to retire. He said he tried to get him to stay on one last time with an entreaty in August, but Billdt declined.
Billdt himself said he's wanted to pursue new interests and spend time with his family.
Sources in City Hall and the Police Department who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that as recently as three weeks ago Billdt was actively lobbying for a contract extension and telling colleagues he planned to stay on beyond March.
We'll be following this story ...

Robert.
They are all liars. Not that you of all people need me to spell it out.
Afterall, Billdt lied to the SB City Council about parolees and you were there and busted him on it. And then he lied about the PAL program to the Council and you were there and busted him on it.
And don't forget that Mayor Morris has shown a proclivity to...ahem...stretch the truth. Unbelieveable considering he was a judge.
What am I referring to? A number of things. Most notably the myth that somehow Mayor Morris was so out of touch that he didn't learn about any of Mike Miller's shenanigans that were detailed over a several month span until July 17th. And even more specifically, Mayor Morris lied about City Manager Fred Wilson.
The Fred Wilson lie is nearly identical to this Chief Billdt lie. Mayor Morris was pushing Fred out months ago. This was revealed in a Press Enterprise article that was scrubbed and cleansed but saved on Google.
It clearly stated that the Morris camp was pushing Wilson out. What was the public line from Morris: They were saddened to see him go because he was such a competent...blah blah blah city manager.
Mayor Morris and Chief Billdt also promised to get to the bottom of the Dorjils incident. What happened there? Nothing.
I posted a screenshot of the PE fiasco at Red County and in a recent comment elsewhere on this blog.
And it is laughable for Morris and Billdt to try to suggest that Billdt was on record MONTHS ago that he was going to retire.
Now...as Lt. Scotty Paterson would say: "That's BALDERDASH!"
Let me clarify about the "MONTHS AGO" comment.
The no confidence vote happened in early September and was telegraphed at the City Council meeting. If this were really the case, dontcha think the mayor might have approached the poa and suggested that the chief was on his way out...and asked the POA to stand down or try to resolve it in some fashion?
Hey Mitch,
Thanks for taking the time to blog on the other threads.
You preach that you're a man of "HONOR" and that you "humble" yourself by reading a medal of honor book.
Well, if this is true, and not just "I wanna sound like a cowboy" bulldung; then you will give some advice to Mike Billdt and explain the definition of HONOR. HONOR is defined as follows:
a. Principled uprightness of character; personal integrity.
b. A code of integrity, dignity, and pride, chiefly among men, that was maintained in some societies.
Mitch, if you believe in HONOR, then how about having Mike "HONOR" the no-confidence vote from the men and women of your Department and leave now!
Or does he need the extra time to scuttle the ship and prevent your wrongdoings from being discovered...not like you haven't ordered unfavorable (video) evidence destroyed before.
You should also ride off into the sunset also. Yippee-ki-yay
Billdts quote to the Sun
"It's been my intention to transition from being the police chief to some opportunities in my private life and to spend more time with my family," he said.
(Translation...I think I'll attend San Bernardino Valley College, and start working on my degree.)
To Anonymous Above:
Does San Bernardino Valley College have a masters program?
:snickers:
Joseph: Believe the headline. It is true. You "woulda' thunk" if the Mayor was smart he would have exposed that very important piece of knowledge to the POA but...that would have shown release of his control. Never stand down when you are a judge, even if you are wrong. That is the Morris' motto. Too bad, too sad...for this city and the rank and file who defend us.
Yes, if the vote of no-confidence from the poa membership had been favorable towards billdt, he had planned to extend his contract & the mayor would have approved it. no ifs ands or buts. scary stuff, eh?
Does anybody know when San Berardino Valley College plays Auggie U, and are there any tickets left???
Trying to find four tickets to give Chief Billdt as a retirement present. (Shhhh...don't anyone tell him...going to be a surprise)
Oh, & do't forget Billdt's retirement gala. Tickets for that event will be at a premium.......they're gonna pack the banquet hall. Kimball, Goggin, Lemos, & Boom make up the committee--your invitations ORDERING you to attend will be sent out in your PD mailbox.
Don't insult Valley College like that! Valley at least carries on with classes (even if they're not led by college graduates, themselves) to give the APPEARANCE of a college.
A judgement against Billdt's "hitman" Captain Mitchal Ray Kimball, who supervises a Sergeant currently accused of 4th Amendment violations. I'm sure this was just a training issue too.
The jury returned a verdict against Officer Kimball in the amount of $30,000 compensatory damages and $4,000 punitive damages on Mohammed Alfaorr's state law battery claim and his federal claim under 42 U.S.C. S 1983 for using excessive force in violation of his Fourth Amendment rights.
Judy Judy,
I'm no Kimball fan, but that judgement was overturned and means nothing.
Kimball and Boom will not be planning Billdt's retirement party. Like someone said earlier, they'll be busy studying and taking up the next chief's hobbies. I hope the next chief likes ballet. I can't wait to see Kimball and Boom in their tutus.
One way to know for sure if Billdt "planned" on retiring in March 2009.............find out if he has been paying his benifits since that time. By paying his own benefits his last year, he would essentially get an extra 9% added to his pension. So 30 years X 3%= 90%, then add 9%..........99% of his pay.
Oh yeah, has anyone else heard about a "Blue Flu" going around? Just wondering when it was supposed to reach epidemic proportions so I can be out of town.
Another little "Blue Bird" (from a higher authority than SBPD) also told me that Billdt is being investigated.......let's just say from an outside agency (ahem, as in federal), for his little "violent crime reporting practices". From what I was told, he could be held criminally? Sounds serious, as in prison. Hey guys, he might not make it until March.
The reporting as I remember included murder & nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, property crime, burglary, larceny theft, motor vehicle theft and Arson 1.
Anyone talking around the waterjug?
Everyone should read the article in the press enterprise this morning. There is more info from that professor about how Billdt and Morris are manipulating the stats.
Tower to Morris: We have a bogie in your nine o'clock over city hall
Morris to Tower: Quick! dispatch Iceman to intercept the bogie!
Tower to Morris: Sorry Mayor, Iceman is grounded
Morris to Tower: Dammit!!
I just read the PE's story, it's pretty good. I know The Sun reported the whole Cal State professor thing but why didn't the Sun run the story in the paper and not just in the blog? That makes it looks like the PE got the story first when they didn't?
Because Billdt, probably, threatened Steve Lambert also. A challenge was issued under another thread regarding this issue.
yeah, totally puzzling. The blog had the professor laying out totally how chief Bildt lied, misrepresented the stats and then tried to strong-arm the professor into going along with it.
That was the best article I've read in terms of showing just how crazy Bildt is. Why the heck wasn't that in the newspaper?
Robert Rogers said it (the Billdt intimidates the Professor story) was on the blog so they didn't need to put it in the printed newspaper.
I personally think that Lambert is still in Pat Morris' pocket and wasn't going to be THAT in your face with him.
This isn't the first time they've put a leash on Robert - there was another story that the PE broke that Robert had first but they didn't let him publish until AFTER the PE did.
Do you think Steve likes Pat's pocket? Maybe it's warm and comfy.
Just to keep the record straight, "Judge Judy" commented on September 19, 2008 at 4:56 p.m. regarding a jury verdict against "Officer (now Captain Mitch) Kimball."
Confirming what "Anonymous" posted on September 19, 2008 at 5:49 p.m., that jury verdict was overturned pursuant to the following Order of the Federal District Court filed January 28, 2000:
"Pursuant to the opinion and mandate of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Judgment heretofore entered in favor of Mohammed Alfoor and against Mitchal Kimball is hereby vacated in its entirety.
Richard A. Paez
United States District Court Judge"
