No big rigs on Mount Vernon bridge
Amidst all the hubbub of Operation Phoenix and internal strife within the Police Department, the City Council on Tuesday passed a law banning commercial trucks from traveling on Mount Vernon bridge.
The bridge allows vehicles driven along Mount Vernon Avenue between Second and Fifth streets to pass over BNSF Railway. The council took action to close the bridge after Caltrans provided city officials with information that buckling had been observed in bridge girders.
The law, which went into effect immediately, contains exceptions for commercial pickup trucks, vans and passenger cars. Big rigs, however, need to steer clear.

If the law went into effect on Tuesday evening Ken Fischer and Public Services were slow getting signs out there to stop the trucks. I was at the intersection of Mt. Vernon and 5th yesterday (Wednesday) around 4PM and I didn't see any signs.
