Letter from Mayor Morris to Caltrans

| | Comments (3) |

Here's a letter from Mayor Pat Morris and Fire Chief Michael Conrad requesting a meeting with local Caltrans director Raymond W. Wolfe to discuss the need to clean up vegetation along the 215 freeway.

The dry plants helped fuel two fires that swept through the freeway corridor on Monday.

Morris said a meeting is set for Tuesday.

I hope that someone brings to the Mayor's and Caltran's attention that the removal work of the burned debris currently ongoing along the 215 in downtown SB will result in mud flows onto the freeway surface unless Caltrans takes steps NOW to mitigate the water flow that will come at first rain. When the rains get here that will hardly be the time to think about flooding and mudslides that always follow fires of this nature. Lets just hope Caltrans listens better to warnings this time around than they have done in the past weeks, months, and year about the pending fire danger.

Prior the 5th st. bridge expansion, I,when employed in the city of san bernardino street dept., assisted Caltrans with debris and shrubbery removal. the san bernardino county paroles were also involved and they were supervised by Nick Gonzales, who worked in the san bernardino mayors office. the mayor knows about this problem, it is nothing new. the city has work sentence people, who work fine payments off, who can and should have assisted in the clean up. the city has worked on this 215frwy and assisted on the south waterman avenue offramp of the 10frwy.So instead of complaints from the san bernardinos mayor office,DO THE WORK.

Along the approachh to Home Depot, South of Highland Av, On Licoln St.,Muscupiabe and 21st St. For years, there is all kinds of workers waiting for a day job. If the city of San Bernardino will NOT hire them, then site them for loitering and after they go through the court system, there will be more FREE labor to assist in the clean up along the freeways. Brutal as I may sound it is better than complaining to another agency. Or is it to let the West side of San Bernardino BURN.
