American mayors ask for "Main Street" recovery
Here's an extra-long document from the U.S. Conference of Mayors that was referred to in today's "Road to Recovery" article. The document has a bevy of public works projects that San Bernardino and other cities are showcasing as efforts that could immediately move forward if Congress accepts President-elect Barack Obama's proposal to spend a mountain of money on infrastructure and other projects in an attempt to stimulate the economy.
Potential projects - and funding requests - for SB include $8 million for hangar upgrades at San Bernardino International Airport, $16 million for capital improvements at Rowe and Villasenor libraries, $22 million for seismic retrofitting and renovations at City Hall and $223 million for a light rail line linking San Bernardino to Redlands.

Yes, here is just another example of where our City Leadership really is. Asking for money from the Federal Government when the Government is in the RED by TRILLIONS of dollars. Hello!! This Road To Recovery they speak of MUST begin in Kansas and be formed by yellow bricks. $223 million for railroad improvements from Redlands to San Bernardino? Right! What is wrong with telling the railroad to belly up with some of their unbelievable funds for this railroad? $8 million for hangar upgrades at SBIAP? Do they know something we don’t? Is SBIAP our field of dreams? Build it and they will come? We have been waiting since 1992 when Norton AFB closed for “them” to come. Where are they, which way did they go? Victorville found theirs (a major aircraft maintenance/mod and overall facility), March ARB found theirs, and SBIAP??? What happened? Did the Mayor find it in MEXICO during his recent trip? Oh by the way, another major car dealership just announced they are closing their doors (Kennedy Cadillac). Maybe it is time to pull heads out of the clouds and focus on what is happening in and around SB now today. At this rate, there will not be enough For Rent / For Sale signs to go around. Where is the (Bailout Money) the Federal Government is spending today coming from? When will those chickens come home to roost? It is time for the City of SB, the State of CA and AMERICA to WAKE UP…the spending HAS to stop.
